Disney+’s Stargirl soundtrack features a compilation of mellow cover songs, along with original tracks by lead actress Grace VanderWaal – the winner of America’s Got Talent season 11. As a whole, the musical arrangements and vinyl references in the Disney+ film will likely bring back memories for some viewers while inspiring others to learn more. Stargirl released on March 13, 2020.

Directed by Julia Hart (Fast Color) and based on Jerry Spinelli eponymous 2000 novel, Disney+’s Stargirl focuses on the friendship between Arizona teenagers Susan “Stargirl” Caraway (VanderWaal) and Leo Borlock (Graham Verchere). At school, Stargirl performs a birthday song for the introverted Leo, who then makes a conscious effort to befriend the girl. They form a romantic bond, and Stargirl even becomes a musical good luck charm for the football team. But the young lovers discover just how petty teenagers can be after Stargirl refuses to fully conform. Stargirl co-stars Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) and Darby Stanchfield (Scandal).

Overall, the Stargirl soundtrack doesn’t necessarily feature any heavy music. Instead, VanderWaal performs covers of soft rock songs that were originally released in the ’60s,’70s, and ’80s. She also performs some original tracks, including one that’s featured during a brief post-credits scene. Here’s every featured song in Stargirl on Disney+.

“Today and Tomorrow” – Grace VanderWaal

Early on, VanderWaal’s Stargirl performs “Be True to Your School” at a Mica High football game, which surprises not only Leo but also the entire school. For the next game, Stargirl breaks out a stripped-down cover of “We Got the Beat.” Almost midway through the Disney+ film, “Thirteen” plays during a montage sequence, not long after Stargirl gives a Big Star record to Leo.

When Mica High plays Rio Canyon, Stargirl once agains performs “Be True to Your School” – a song that sets up mid-movie conflict as Leo’s girlfriend splits to look after the opposing team’s injured All-American quarterback, Ron Kovac. After Leo unloads a bit of snark on Stargirl, he makes up for it by performing “Thirteen,” prompting his girlfriend to join in on the fun.

After some more drama, Leo attends the Homecoming dance alone and learns that Stargirl set him up to perform “Just What I Needed” – a song that reminds him of his late father. When Disney+’s Stargirl ends, “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)” plays over the credits. In one final movie moment afterwards, Stargirl performs “Today and Tomorrow” for Leo.
