Here’s every song from the Good Boys soundtrack that’s heard during the film. The raunchy, R-rated comedy stars a trio of inexperienced tweens – Jacob Trembley (Room), Brady Noon, and Keith L. Williams – who panic when they’re invited to their very first “kissing” party. Hoping to learn all they can before the big night, the three best friends embark on a wild adventure of bad decisions and hilarious consequences as they navigate the perils of impending puberty.

Good Boys is directed by Gene Stupnitsky from a script he co-wrote with Lee Eisenberg, both of whom wrote for The Office before transitioning to films with Year One and Bad Teacher. The comedy is also produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, making any comparisons to the pair’s Superbad feel entirely appropriate. However, unlike R-rated, teen comedies like Superbad and this year’s Booksmart – which see their protagonists preparing to make the jump from high school to college – the kids in Good Boys are barely in middle school. Having younger leads who are totally ignorant of sex and drugs is where Good Boys mines the bulk of its jokes, but thankfully, the film never asks them to lose too much of that childlike innocence. As for the music in Good Boys, it’s decidedly less innocent.

Many of the songs on Good Boys‘ soundtrack are contemporary songs that today’s 12-year-olds may actually be listening to (though, surely, in some cases against their parents’ wishes). “Nobody Speak” by DJ Shadow and featuring Run the Jewels, for example, is featured in the Good Boys red band trailer and plays at a moment in the film where these boys start really getting in over their heads.

The contemporary music highlights the setting in Good Boys, but it’s the songs that aren’t from the mid-2010s that get used to great comedic effect. For example, The Chakacha’s 1971 disco track, “Jungle Fever”, with its heavy breathing and moaning accompanies a moment of sexual awakening, while the ethereal piece of classical music, “Flower Duet” from Léo Delibes’ opera, Lakmé, is heard as the boys discover a beautiful doll and don’t quite understand its purpose. A few songs are even sung within the film by Noon’s character, Thor. These are Katrina & The Wave’s “Walking On Sunshine”, which comes during a choir class, and Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is”, which Thor performs in their middle school production of Rock of Ages.
