Every Song On The Us Movie Soundtrack

The soundtrack for Jordan Peele’s movie Us reunites the Academy Award-winning director with Get Out composer Michael Abels, but it also features numerous songs from acclaimed artists as well. The official Us soundtrack includes Abels’ terrifying score, a couple of classic soul songs, and features the popular 1990s hip-hop tune “I Got 5 on It”. Seeing as how Abels did such an amazing job with the twisted score from Get Out, it isn’t surprising that Peele brought him back to craft yet another terrifying set of music for Us.

Much like Peele’s directorial debut, Us features a mix of a chilling score – that will certainly stick with audiences – and a few recognizable songs from singers such as Janelle Monae, Minnie Riperton, and hip-hop duo Luniz. As seen in the Us trailer, the movie soundtrack includes a slowed down version of the popular ’90s song “I Got 5 on It”, an unexpected twist that viewers at the time didn’t expect. Abels has turned one of the most popular songs from the 1990s into an eery tune fitting for a horror film. Aside from that, the talented composer has put together several unsettling tracks that support the disturbing atmosphere set up in Us.

The Us movie soundtrack is currently available to stream on Spotify and features all the songs viewers hear in Peele’s film along with additional songs that inspired the movie. While the original score features music from Abels, the other songs come from well-known artists and spread across several decades, including the ’70s and the ’90s.

Us spoilers below.

These songs can be heard playing in the background throughout the film’s runtime. Luniz’s ” I Got 5 on It” is first heard when the Wilson’s are driving to the Santa Cruz beach to spend time with their friends, and is the only ’90s song heard in the film. Minnie Ripperton’s “Les Fleur” is used towards the end of the film after the Wilson’s have fled the area and the tethered have taken out all of their original counterparts. The song adds a sense of power to the scene as the tethered are shown united as one faction that will no longer live in the shadows.

Janelle Monae’s “I Like That” plays in the first shot with the Wilson’s as they drive to the house that will later be their place of terror when the doppelgangers strike. The two parents, Gabe and Adelaide, who are played by Winston Duke and Lupita Nyong’o, are shown driving to the house as they awaken their sleeping children. The scene shares similarities to Get Out, which also begins with a car ride. The song fits perfectly with the audiences first introduction to the main family that the film will center on.

Abels’ “Home Invasion” can be heard when the tethered version of the Wilson’s first arrive and begin to break in. Gabe pleads with his son Jason to hand him a bat as he prepares to confront the family in their driveway. This, of course, doesn’t go well and the Wilson’s become trapped in a night of terror. It’s a terrifying tune that captures the imminent danger the Wilson’s are about to find themselves in. The soundtrack for Us is gorgeous but terrifying all at once and shows just how talented Abels can be, but there are plenty of other songs that viewers will enjoy as well.
