Tyrese Gibson and Taraji P. Henson have been friends for a long time, but which movies have they starred in together? Actor-musician Tyrese Gibson and actress Taraji P. Henson are two talents not normally professionally associated with each other. The two grew up on opposite sides of the country (Gibson in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles and Henson in southeast Washington D.C.) with Gibson best known as Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious franchise and Henson as Cookie Lyon in the Fox drama Empire.

Their paths almost crossed a couple of times early on in their careers. Both had one-off roles in different episodes of the fourth season of WB sitcom The Parent ‘Hood and later had bit parts in Sister, Sister (albeit in different seasons). However, it wasn’t until they got their big break after being cast in director John Singleton’s coming-of-age drama Baby Boy that Tyrese and Taraji P. Henson shared a screen together.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Co-starring in Baby Boy sparked a close friendship between Gibson and Henson and John Singleton once spoke of a similarly-themed movie script he’d penned that would reunite the pair. Sadly, Singleton has since died so whether that project will still go ahead is unknown. In the meantime, here’s every movie – plus one bonus music video – that Tyrese Gibson and Taraji P. Henson have appeared in together so far.

Baby Boy (2001)

Baby Boy was the film that put both Tyrese and Taraji P. Henson on the map. It’s set in the director’s native South Central Los Angeles and is the third installment in what John Singleton called his “hood trilogy.” Gibson stars as Joseph “Jody” Summers, an aimless 20-year-old struggling with the realities and responsibilities of adulthood, while Henson plays Yvette – his long-suffering girlfriend and the mother of his young son. Snoop Dogg and Omar Gooding appear in supporting roles as Yvette’s ex and Jody’s friend respectively.

Four Brothers (2005)

Tyrese and Henson reunited on the set of Singleton’s 2005 action-crime drama Four Brothers. Set in Detroit, the film follows four adopted brothers – Angel (Gibson), Bobby (Mark Wahlberg), Jeremiah (André Benjamin) and Jack (Garrett Hedlund) – who reunite to avenge their adoptive mother’s death after she’s brutally gunned down during a convenience store robbery. Henson had a smaller role in Four Brothers as Jeremiah’s wife Camille, as did her fellow frequent co-star Terrence Howard as cop Lieutenant Green.

“Stay”

Tyrese Gibson and Taraji P. Henson’s most recent collaboration came when they co-starred in the music video for Gibson’s 2011 song “Stay,” from his fifth studio album Open Invitation. Directed by Matt Alonzo, the video sees Tyrese and Henson play a couple whose relationship is on the rocks but who eventually reconcile.
