What’s next for Michael B. Jordan? The American actor didn’t appear in a single TV show or movie in 2020 thanks to the coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc on the worldwide release schedule, but then headlined the Amazon Prime movie Without Remorse in 2021. Jordan will soon reprise his roles from both the MCU and Creed franchises, but also has several other projects in the works.

In 2002, Jordan delivered a breakthrough performance as the morally conflicted Wallace in HBO’s The Wire. As a teenage actor, he captured the naivete and innocence of his character, a Baltimore native who is criticized by street criminals for being weak and submissive. After a three-year run on the ABC soap opera All My Children, Jordan landed a recurring role as Vince Howard on the NBC series Friday Night Lights. From there, he evolved into a proper movie star thanks to starring roles in Fruitvale Station (2013), Fantastic Four (2015), and Creed (2015), most regularly working with filmmaker Ryan Coogler.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

During the late 2010s, Jordan reached a new level of fame upon starring as the MCU villain Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, and by branching out as a Hollywood producer. He funded his own movies like Fahrenheit 451 and Creed II, but also developed TV series such as Gen: Lock, Raising DionDavid Makes Man, and 61st Street. Jordan is currently attached to multiple industry projects, so here’s where audiences can expect to see him next.

What If…?

In April 2021, Jordan revealed that he’s unlikely to return for Black Panther 2, which isn’t a huge surprise given Erik Killmonger’s fate in the original 2018 movie. However, Jordan will reprise his character through a voice role in the upcoming Disney+ series What If? His episode will explore what might’ve happened if Peggy Carter had consumed the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers.

A Journal For Jordan

Based on Dana Canedy’s eponymous 2008 memoir, A Journal for Jordan follows U.S. Sergeant Charles Monroe King (Jordan), a soldier who writes letters to his infant son during the Iraq War. Denzel Washington is set to direct the movie, which was adapted by the Oscar-nominated screenwriter Virgil Williams (Mudbound). American actress Chanté Adams (Roxanne Roxanne, The Photograph) will co-star in A Journal for Jordan.

Methuselah

In May 2020, Jordan was announced as the lead for the upcoming movie Methuselah. Directed by Danny Boyle and written by Simon Beaufoy, the storyline is loosely inspired by the biblical story about a man who lived for nearly one thousand years, and then died just days before his grandson Noah navigated a great flood (as chronicled in the Book of Genesis). Boyle and Beaufoy previously collaborated for both 127 Hours and Slumdog Millionaire, and will reportedly change key details in their version of the Methuselah narrative.

Creed III

Jordan will direct and star in Creed III, an extension of the Rocky movie series. He previously made his directorial debut with Creed II in 2018, and will collaborate with screenwriters Keenan Coogler (Space Jam: A New Legacy) and Zack Baylin (King Richard) for the third franchise installment. However, Sylvester Stallone himself has said he will not be part of Creed III, as the new film will focus entirely on Jordan’s character, Adonis Creed, and Stallone is ready to hand the reins over. However, Jordan has assured Rocky/Creed franchise fans that, “There’s always going to be a little bit of Rocky within Adonis.”

Wrong Answer

In June 2017, Jordan and long-time collaborator Ryan Coogler officially committed to Wrong Answer. The movie was inspired by Rachel Aviv’s eponymous 2014 story in The New Yorker about an educational cheating scandal. Michael B. Jordan will star as Damany Lewis, a math teacher who conspired to protect his Atlanta school and gain funding by falsifying standardized test answers. Wrong Answer will be written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, and will reportedly release after Black Panther 2.
