After relatively little news over the past couple of years, Olivia Wilde’s highly-anticipated film Don’t Worry Darling is finally gaining some traction. Don’t Worry Darling has been steadily filming since its announcement in August 2019, after winning an intense bidding war against 18 other studios. Now, after a protracted gestation period, the movie looks finally set to see the light of day.

Don’t Worry Darling will be Wilde’s second film as director following her debut with the coming-of-age comedy Booksmart (2019). The film did exceptionally well, garnering $25 million in the box office and receiving a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, while Wilde undoubtedly found success with Booksmart’s comedic style, Don’t Worry Darling promises to be a very different project tonally, drawing on a number of challenging themes.

Don’t Worry Darling Release Date

Don’t Worry Darling finally wrapped up production in February 2021 after coming to a standstill twice due to different crew members testing positive for Covid-19. Although an official trailer has not been released yet, a short teaser on Olivia Wilde’s Instagram showcases a release date for the fall. Wilde’s teaser was posted on September 13th, 2021, and an official release date for Don’t Worry Darling is in her bio, set to arrive in theatres on September 23rd, 2022.

Don’t Worry Darling Cast

Don’t Worry Darling has a star-studded cast. The short teaser on Wilde’s Instagram post shows Florence Pugh (Midsommar, Black Widow) in a 50s-Esque hair-do and outfit, portraying Alice as a housewife. Portraying her husband is singer and actor Harry Styles. With Styles and Pugh being the film’s main stars, Don’t Worry Darling is destined to have a big opening weekend.Aside from Styles and Pugh, also starring in Don’t Worry Darling is Olivia Wilde herself, as well as Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians), Kiki Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), Douglas Smith (The Alienist), Nick Kroll (Big Mouth), Asif Ali (Goatface), and Chris Pine (Wonder Woman 1984) as a cult leader.

Don’t Worry Darling Story

Don’t Worry Darling strays far from Wilde’s comedy Booksmart, as the film is a psychological thriller. Although the plot details are still pretty vague, a synopsis of the film has been released; Alice (Pugh), a 1950s housewife, begins to worry when odd things begin to happen around her in her utopian-like California desert neighborhood. Harry Styles is portraying Alice’s mysterious husband, Jack, who is hiding a big secret. Alice’s neighbor Margaret (Layne) is the only other person besides Alice who believes something terrible is happening around them. Don’t Worry Darling seems like it will be a rather creepy and sinister film, which is right up Florence Pugh’s alley.
