It’s a busy year in 2021 for new sci-fi TV shows, as well as for returning shows. The animated sci-fi comedy’s third season will consist of 13 episodes and the first seven episode titles have already been revealed by the creator of the series, Olan Rogers, via his Twitter account. While the titles don’t betray much of the story, the trailer gives a better idea of what Gary and the team squad are in for the upcoming season.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Final Space season 2 involved a lot of time travel to acquire the dimension keys, which give access to the place known as Final Space. At the end, the team squad and its original duo, Gary Goodspeed and Mooncake (both voiced by Olan Rogers), are seen entering it at last. Their goal remains to save the universe from the Titans, who live in Final Space and threaten to invade the universe, by sealing it away definitively. What Is Final Space Season 3’s Story?

Final Space seems to be going in a much darker place for season 3. In the final moments of season 2, as Nightfall sacrificed herself so Bolo could be freed, Gary was finally reunited with Quinn, who had been trapped in Final Space since season 1. However, it is full of corpses of other dimensions’ versions of Gary and the trailer shows them assembling, with their eyes glowing red, seemingly possessed by villain Invictus (Vanessa Marshall). Presumably, they will prove to be a first major obstacle. In another trailer scene, as Avocato (Coty Galloway) is shown being beating up Gary, Little Cato can be heard saying that they have to stop leaving people behind, hinting at more casualties amongst the team squad.

In season 2, the show laid out a perfect opportunity to resurrect a dead character. Gary’s mom Sheryl (Claudia Black) revealed that she made a deal with a Titan named Orescus to bring back her husband John Goodspeed (Ron Perlman), who sacrificed himself as Quinn did to try and close the breach between Final Space and the rest of the universe. John is an important character, guiding and inspiring his son Gary through space and time, and if Quinn made it trapped in Final Space, maybe John could have as well. Whether that’s the case or not, Gary will probably want to avenge his father, another of Invictus’ victims.

Final Space’s New & Returning Cast

The sci-fi TV show’s trailer doesn’t reveal any new cast members so Gary and Mooncake are accompanied by the crew of misfits fans have already come to love, with the late addition of Sheryl and the return of Quinn (Tika Sumpter). Bolo (Keith David) is heavily featured, hinting at a more solid role in this season. Their ship, powered by A.V.A. (Jane Lynch), can be heard reporting major system failures, and a new ship is featured throughout the rest of the trailer. However, A.V.A. might still make it if it downloads itself in H.U.E.’s body, as it did in the second season. As far as villains go, Invictus is back with her minion Lord Commander (David Tennant), and they are still intent on destroying the seal of Final Space to be able to invade the universe with the Titans.

Final Space Season 3 Release Date

The trailer confirms the release of the first episode of Final Space season 3 on March 20, 2021, airing on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim in the U.S.; it will release one weekly episode for a total of 13 episodes. Release dates on other platforms for international audiences, such as Netflix, have not yet been announced, but will probably come at a later date. You can watch the trailer here:
