On December 23rd, Genshin Impact will be getting its 1.2 update, called “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon.” In a trailer that dropped earlier today, the new location, called Dragonspine, was officially unveiled. Although screenshots of the area leaked weeks ago, this was the first good glimpse fans have had of Genshin Impact‘s exciting new Dragonspine region.

The Dragonspine region had long been rumored to be coming to Genshin Impact. Originally, fans speculated it would arrive with the 1.1 content update, but that didn’t happen. Then, rumors began circulating the new region would finally come with Genshin Impact Patch 1.2, which has now proven to be true. It marks the first time a new region has come to the game since Genshin Impact launched, so player expectations are unusually high.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Genshin Impact’s Dragonspine region is a snow-covered, mountainous area to the east of Liyue and south of Mondstadt. In the reveal trailer, fans are treated to several shots of the snow-capped peaks and wintry enemies. Interestingly enough, it looks like Sucrose will play an important role in events inside Dragonspine, a region where the snow never melts for some unknown reason.

Lore & Story In Genshin Impact’s New Dragonspine Region

According to the lore in Genshin Impact, Dragonspine is where the venomous dragon, Durin, fell after his defeat in the battle against Dvalin, the dragon who was corrupted into Stormterror during the Mondstadt portion of the main story. It’s hinted at in the trailer that Durin’s fall has something to do with the snow never melting in Dragonspine. Also, to coincide with this lore, a new 4-star sword called Festering Desire will be obtainable and play a major role in Genshin Impact’s 1.2 update’s main plot.

Additionally, at least two new playable characters, Ganyu and Albedo, are coming to Genshin Impact‘s 1.2 update. A lot of playable Genshin Impact characters had leaked previously, but some of them were finally confirmed in the new trailer. How exactly these new characters configure into Dragonspine’s overall story remains to be seen, but the new characters will most likely only be obtained through the game’s gacha pull Wish system.

Overall, there’s a lot for fans to be excited about in Genshin Impact’s new 1.2 “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon” update. New playable characters to use are always exciting for Genshin Impact fans, but it looks like the biggest draw for jumping back in to Patch 1.2 will be the new Dragonspine region. It’s the first time a new region has come to Genshin Impact, so expectations are definitely high.
