TNT’s sci-fi hit series Snowpiercer will return for season 4 and here’s everything we know about what’s next. Snowpiercer season 3 has been a monumental season that saw the return of Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly), who was believed dead at the end of season 2. In an incredible twist, Melanie turned on Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) and sabotaged his plan to bring the train to New Eden in the Horn of Africa, which is believed to be a warm spot on the frozen Earth they can settle.

Snowpiercer season 3 began with Layton and his inner circle returning to the super train after they stole the engine and vanished for 6 months. Layton wrested control of Snowpiercer from Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) but he lied to the passengers by telling them he’s been to New Eden and that a survivor they found named Asha (Archie Panjabi) came from the Horn of Africa. Layton’s authority was challenged by his old nemesis Pike (Steven Ogg), who knew Andre lied about New Eden. After Layton killed Pike, he fell into a coma and realized when he came to that he made New Eden up. Meanwhile, Wilford deduced that Melanie was alive and Snowpiercer mounted a rescue operation to bring their Head Engineer back aboard. Reunited with her loved ones like her daughter Alex (Rowan Blanchard), Melanie decided that Layton’s New Eden plan was dangerous and she publicly revealed his lie. Melanie took control of the train and set up another conflict between herself, Layton, and Wilford.

Snowpiercer‘s stellar supporting cast also went through numerous changes. Bess Till (Mickey Sumner) unexpectedly found love with Miss Audrey (Lena Hall), Mr. Wilford’s former paramour. Meanwhile, LJ Folger (Annalise Basso) unlikely marriage to John Osweiller’s (Sam Otto) fell apart. Life on Snowpiercer is never static and season 3 ended with the most seismic shift of the show’s status quo set heading into the upcoming Snowpiercer season 4.

Snowpiercer Is Returning For Season 4 On TNT

TNT renewed Snowpiercer for season 4 on July 29, 2021, while season 3 was still in production. This was a huge sign of validation for the post-apocalyptic sci-fi action series, which has been a consistent hit on TNT. Snowpiercer season 3 was produced in Vancouver under strict COVID 19-protocols, and it stands to reason that will be the case for season 4 when Snowpiercer resumes production in 2022.

Snowpiercer Season 4 Possible Release Date

There’s currently no release date for Snowpiercer season 4 but it’s safe to expect it to premiere sometime in 2023. Snowpiercer season 1 premiered on TNT in May 2020, but the second and third seasons were January releases in 2021 and 2022. Given Snowpiercer will be in production throughout 2022, it’s possible that Snowpiercer season 4 will premiere in May 2023, echoing season 1. It’s also currently unknown whether TNT will renew Snowpiercer for season 5.

Snowpiercer Season 4 Cast & Story Updates

Warning: SPOILERS for Snowpiercer Season 3’s Finale – “The Original Sinners”

Snowpiercer‘s core season 3 cast is expected to return for season 4, and that includes Jennifer Connelly, who was absent for most of seasons 2 and 3. Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright, Rowan Blanchard, Iddo Goldberg, Lena Hall, Mickey Sumner, Sam Otto, Shiela Vand, Mike O’Malley, Roberto Urbina, and Jaylin Fletcher. However, after the events of Snowpiercer season 3’s finale, it’s unclear what the status of Sean Bean’s Mr. Wilford will be and if he’ll return in season 4. Many other cast members exited Snowpiercer in season 3, including Archie Panjabi, Annalise Basso, and Steven Ogg. While anything can happen in Snowpiercer, it’s unlikely their characters will return. However, Snowpiercer season 4 is adding two new actors, Michael Aronov and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Clark Gregg.

Snowpiercer‘s paradigm is constantly evolving and, by the end of season 3, it has completely changed again, with half of the train’s passengers following Andre Layton to settle in New Eden while the rest remain aboard Snowpiercer under Melanie Cavill’s guidance. Mr. Wilford is gone from Snowpiercer and his status is unknown. Meanwhile, Snowpiercer season 3’s final scene time jumped three months to show Melanie seeing a missile launched into the atmosphere, which could mean there’s another previously unknown pocket of human survivors in the world. Paul Zybyszewski also takes over from Graeme Manson and Aubrey Nealon as Snowpiercer‘s new showrunner, which cements a brand new direction for Snowpiercer season 4.

Snowpiercer Season 4 is available to stream on the TNT app.
