Netflix announced their upcoming original horror romantic comedy film, The Hills Have Eyes For You—here’s everything we know so far. In 2020, horror comedy movies are rising in popularity on nearly every major streaming service. In the 2000s, horror parodies peaked, but it wasn’t until the 2010s that horror comedies truly saw their time in the spotlight. After the release of the Hulu original movie Little Monsters (2019) and Netflix original Little Evil (2017), streaming platforms have seemingly embraced the sub-genre. As 2020 is ushering in a new decade, which will arguably set the pace for horror in the 2020s, the announcement for The Hills Have Eyes For You comes at a perfect time.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Presumably, The Hills Have Eyes For You will take influence from the 1977 Wes Craven movie about a cannibal clan living in the desert, The Hills Have Eyes. Craven’s movie primarily focuses on the cannibalistic Jupiter family and their drive to survive living and thriving out in the Nevada desert. What commences is an all-out cannibal frenzy on the unsuspecting Carter family. With that plot in mind, it might be somewhat hard to imagine how a rom-com could be born out of this original source material.

The success of the zombie love story Warm Bodies (2013) says otherwise, and proves how it can be integrated into a seemingly unlikely combination of genres. This film could be a stepping stone towards more intricate blends of genres within horror. With Eli Craig as the director and a strong plot, The Hills Have Eyes For You looks to be a promising roller coaster of horror, romance, and comedy.

The Hills Have Eyes For You Release Date

Netflix has not announced a specific release date for The Hills Have Eyes For You as of this writing, but it is assumed that it will likely get a fall release, as horror movies tend to do best when they are released closer to Halloween. On the flip side, it could release closer to Valentine’s Day because of its romantic flair. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, filming is not likely to begin anytime soon. With that in mind, The Hills Have Eyes For You will probably not hit the popular streaming platform until sometime in 2021 or even 2022.

The Hills Have Eyes For You Cast & Crew

For fans of horror comedies, it is exciting news to hear that Eli Craig has signed on to direct The Hills Have Eyes For You. Craig has proven time and time again that he is a master of the genre mix his other movies, Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2011) and Little Evil (2017). Eli Craig is the ideal director to take on the task of blending horror, comedy, and romance to make The Hills Have Eyes For You everything it can be and more.

The Hills Have Eyes For You Plot

The plot for The Hills Have Eyes For You has yet to be announced, but it is assumed that cannibals will be involved. It is entirely plausible that the plot could involve star-crossed lovers in a non-cannibal and cannibal relationship similar to the zombie love story in Warm Bodies. It could also feature similar elements to Life After Beth (2014), where one main character may try to convince their cannibal lover to change their dietary needs, but only time will tell.
