Everything We Know About The King’s Man 2

It’s possible The King’s Man 2 could happen and here’s everything we know about the potential sequel. Based upon Mark Millar’s graphic novel The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Secret Service first arrived in 2015, with the spy action comedy becoming a major hit. The movie’s success would led to its 2017 sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, while The King’s Man serves as a prequel for the franchise.

Set during World War I, The King’s Man follows Orlando Oxford (Ralph Fiennes), who uncovers a plot against England during the onset of the war. Allied with Shofa (Djimon Hounsou) and Polly (Gemma Arterton), they set off to put a stop to it. Their mission puts them in conflict with the sinister Rasputin (Rhys Ifans), and sets up the Kingsman organization that audiences know and love.

With The King’s Man being a prequel set over a century before the first film, it doesn’t directly set up the films that follow other than serving as an origin story. However, it could also be the beginning of a prequel-based corner of the Kingsman franchise itself, should 20th Century Studios decide to go that route.

Will The King’s Man 2 Happen?

It has been confirmed that Kingsman 3 is officially happening. However, this won’t follow on The King’s Man‘s story, but will be a sequel to Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Therefore, while the Kingsman franchise itself is continuing, there appear to be no immediate plans for The King’s Man 2. It’s understandable considering Matthew Vaughn has helmed each installment in the series and can only afford to focus on one project at a time.

The King’s Man 2 Story: Does The Movie Setup A Sequel?

The King’s Man concludes with Oxford and his allies meeting in the Kingsman tailoring business, where they discuss the need for an independent agency to combat potential threats to the U.K. This is where the Kingsman agency is officially formed, with each member taking on a code name derived from the knights of the round table. This sets up the Kingsman organization, as it was seen in the first two Kingsman films. From there, The King’s Man 2 could easily focus on the first missions as the Kingsman agency, but there’s no specific story or villain being teased.

The King’s Man 2 Cast: Who Will Return?

With Kingsman 3 being in the works and set to continue on the present day films in the series, it’s very unlikely that any of the cast of The Kings Man will appear. Given the setting of the prequel in the early twentieth century, it’s also unlikely that the cast of The Kings Man will return to their respective roles any time soon. With that being said, should another prequel that follows The Kings Man happen, the main cast of the film could come back.

The King’s Man 2 Release Date Prediction

With Kingsman 3 on the way, it would be a while before another prequel entry in the franchise could happen, should one be greenlit. Kingsman 3‘s production start date in September 2022 means that the film will likely be released some time in 2023 or early 2024. With that in mind, should The King’s Man 2 be given the go ahead, audiences likely shouldn’t expect it until 2025 at the earliest.

What The Next Kingsman Movie Is & What Other Spinoffs Are Confirmed

Kingsman 3 will reportedly serve as a conclusion to the story of Eggsy (Taron Egerton). At the moment, while there have been rumors of various Kingsman spinoffs, such as a Statesman movie and a Kingsman TV series, not have yet been officially greenlit, so this leaves the franchise’s future after Kingsman 3 very open. There could be a Kingsman 4 where a new set of characters take the spotlight after Eggsy and Harry’s arc has wrapped up. At the same time, Kingsman 3 could also be the conclusion the contemporary Kingsman series, which could open the door for another prequel following on The King’s Man to move ahead.
