Will Tremors 8 happen, and if so, when would it potentially release? The cult comedy-horror Tremors franchise made a comeback on October 20th with its seventh installment Tremors: Shrieker Island on digital, DVD, and Blu-ray, with Michael Gross returning to the iconic role of Burt Gummer, tackling genetically-manipulated Graboids named Shriekers this time.

Gross remains the only star from the original Tremors to continue appearing through all seven installments of the franchise. Jamie Kennedy, who played Gummer’s son, Travis, in Tremors 5: Bloodlines and Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell, did not reprise his role in the latest movie. Also, loyal fans of the Tremors franchise would be devastated to know that Don Michael Paul’s Tremors: Shrieker Island shockingly ends with Gummer’s death; he’s devoured by a colossal Graboid in an act of self-sacrifice.

While this marks a bittersweet end for Gummer’s arc in Tremors—who has been a part of its legacy for 30 years—could there be a possibility for Tremors 8? After all, the Tremors franchise will not be the same without Gross’ survivalist character making a return. Per a podcast by Bloody Disgusting, Gross feels that Universal Home Entertainment “might’ve had enough of Tremors”. However, that being said, Gross also opines that “the door is still open for an eighth Tremors.” He goes on to explain that, while it might seem unlikely due to Shrieker Island’s ending, Tremors 8 is still is a possibility. Tremors 8 Release Date

Since Tremors: Shrieker’s Island released on October 20, 2020 and ends on an almost-conclusive note, there are currently no official talks about Tremors 8 or a potential release date for a Tremors reboot. On the other hand, Gross told ComicBook.com that he is up for a reboot if Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, or Reba McEntire from 1990’s original Tremors wished to return. On the off-chance that this was to happen, a Tremors reboot would not be out of the question, coupled with the fact that a potential Tremors 8 could still happen by early 2022 if Shrieker Island does well on home video.

Tremors 8 Story Details

If Tremors 8 were to happen, it would likely pick up after the events of Shrieker Island, potentially delving into whether Burt’s death was real after all. It could be an interesting and exciting premise, as it would call for a resurrection or a comeback that is iconic in more ways than one. Gross also said that he will “continue to hope and pray” that he stays in shape until he turns 75 in 2022, which is a tentative two-year time frame for Tremors 8 to potentially happen. Nevertheless, Tremors fans have to wait and see while hoping that the Graboids make an unforgettable return in a future installment somehow.
