Vampire Academy‘s title will have many wondering whether it coincides with the popular CW show, The Vampire Diaries. While they may appear similar at first glance, Peacock’s Vampire Academy is completely unrelated and based on its own set of six YA novels. Although no narrative connection exists between the two shows, they both share the involvement of Plec, who created and wrote The Vampire Diaries, as well as its two spinoffs, The Originals and Legacies.

Vampire Academy‘s announced cast sees Mortal Kombat‘s Sisi Stringer portray the series’ main character, Rose Hathaway, a half-vampire, half-human known as a Dhampir. Daniela Nieves will play Lissa Dragomir, a Moroi Vampire and Rose’s best friend. Kieron Moore will fill the role of Rose’s love interest, Dimitri Belikov. Rounding out the other notable portrayals are Craig Stevenson as Dane Zekios, Mia Mckenna-Bruce as Mia Karp, J. August Richards as Victor Dashkov, André Dae Kim as Christain Ozera, and Andrew Liner as Mason Ashford.

Vampire Academy Story Details

Vampire Academy follows protagonist Rose Hathaway, who trains at St. Vladimir’s Academy to become a guardian of her best friend, Lissa Dragomir — who stands as the last member of her royal family. In the process, Rose falls in love with her instructor Dimitri Belikov. According to Peacock, the Vampire Academy series “combines the elegance of aristocratic romance and the supernatural thrills of the vampire genre” in a “sexy drama.” The Netflix movie only adapted material from the first novel and season 1 of Peacock’s Vampire Academy promises to do the same.

Vampire Academy Release Date Prediction

Peacock has not revealed a release date for Vampire Academy, though it has been confirmed to premiere in 2022. As for the specific time of year, it’s not likely that the series will air before the midpoint of 2022. Peacock has already set release dates for new shows through may, such as Bel-Air in February, Joe vs. Carole and Bust Down in March, and Queer as Folk in May. It seems that Vampire Academy‘s debut on the streaming service will arrive in the latter half of 2022.

Vampire Academy Trailer: What Footage Has Been Released

There currently isn’t a full trailer for Vampire Academy, though Peacock released some initial footage as part of its first-look compilation that aired during the Winter Olympics’ opening ceremony. The brief footage depicts Nieves’ Lissa wearing vibrant red and white attire faced by Stringer’s Rose. Subsequently, a shot of people fighting in a hazy courtyard completes Peacock’s three-second first look at Vampire Academy. While it isn’t much, the wait for a more comprehensive trailer shouldn’t be too long, with the series slated to premiere in 2022.
