The director is known for The Descent, another adventure horror movie that was largely well-received by fans and critics. So much so, it led to a sequel The Descent Part 2, though it was directed by Jon Harris instead of Neil Marshall. While he is predominantly known for this 2005 flick, Marshall has a rather impressive filmography that includes credentials in some of the most influential adventure, thriller, and horror features. For instance, Marshall directed two episodes of Game Of Thrones in 2014 and the 2019 Hellboy movie, which starred David Harbour (Stranger Things).

Given his impressive credentials and experience in the adventure horror sub-genre, his upcoming movie The Reckoning is a highly anticipated release for 2021. While the new year has only just begun, there are several horror movies that were delayed in 2020 that have been further postponed, but some have persevered to maintain their 2021 release dates. The Reckoning Release Date

Distributors RLJE Films and Shudder have set The Reckoning’s release date for February 5, 2021. On that day, it will premiere in theatres and be released through VOD. As such, they are offering horror fans the opportunity to watch The Reckoning on the big screen and from the safety of their own homes.

The Reckoning Cast & Characters

The Reckoning stars Charlotte Kirk as Grace Haverstock. Kirk is known for her roles in Ocean’s 8 and How To Be Single. Alongside the actor, Sean Pertwee acts as Judge Moorcroft, Joe Anderson (The Crazies) as Joseph, Steven Waddington (Sleepy Hollow) as Pendleton, and Ian Whyte (Game Of Thrones, Alien vs. Predator) as “The Devil.” Each cast member listed for The Reckoning has experience in horror and/or adventure in some way, making this collection of actors the perfect ensemble to take on Neil Marshall’s latest adventure horror movie.

The Reckoning Story Details

After the death of her husband Joseph (Anderson) due to complications from the plague, Grace (Kirk) is accused of witchcraft, which is likely derived from the historical Salem Witch Trials. As a result, Judge Moorcroft (Waddington), a determined and vile witch hunter, takes her into custody. He torments Grace through physical, mental, and emotional torture. While she asserts her innocence throughout the movie’s entirety, the Devil (Whyte) beckons to her. Grace is faced with unjust torture, her own internal demons, and the Devil’s grip as he tries to sway her in an infernal direction. This period adventure horror is reminiscent of the popular A24 flick The Witch, which was about a young woman who tries to retain her innocence even when the odds seem stacked against her. Whatever route Grace chooses to take will be revealed when The Reckoning hits theaters and VOD on February 5, 2021.
