The trailer for the upcoming live-action series The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder reveals a first look at the grown-up Timmy Turner. The original cartoon The Fairly OddParents followed the adventures of “average kid” Timmy Turner, who discovers that he has fairy godparents named Cosmo and Wanda who are literal fairies who can grant his every wish, though of course those wishes usually go wrong and cause mayhem. The series originally ran on Nickelodeon from 2001 to 2006 before being revived from 2007 to 2012.

Although there has been a variety of Fairly OddParents media in the interim, including several live-action TV movies starring Drake Bell, the latest development is Fairly Odder, which will blend live-action with animation. The series is set to stream exclusively on Paramount+ beginning on March 31, 2022. The series will star Audrey Grace Marshall as Timmy’s young cousin Viv and Tyler Wladis as her stepbrother Roy. Although their world, and the magical consequences therein, will be live-action, the fairies themselves will still be rendered in 2D style.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Today Paramount+ shared the very first trailer for The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder. In addition to showing many glimpses of the magical mayhem that Viv and Roy will find themselves getting into, it showed the first look at the live-action, grown-up Timmy Turner. In the series, the college-aged Timmy is played by Caleb Pierce, who has previously appeared on Insecure and The Big Bang Theory. He appears in Princeton regalia to bestow Viv with her new fairy godparents, counteracting the original cartoon canon that kids will forget about their fairy godparents once they grow up.

Although the live-action cast is new to the Fairly OddParents universe, Daran Norris and Susanne Blakeslee will be returning to voice the characters of Cosmo and Wanda. The rest of the cast is filled out by Ryan-James Hatanaka as Viv’s father Ty Turner, Laura Bell Bundy as Roy’s mother Rachel Ragland, and Imogen Cohen as Zina Zacarias. The trailer also reveals that the fairy enforcer Jorgen Von Strangle will be returning, also voiced by Daran Norris.

The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder is a curious Roger Rabbit-esque hybrid that hasn’t been attempted many times at such a budget level for a full-length series. Whether the show will be a success remains to be seen. However, it will certainly be intriguing to millennials who grew up with the original show and now have kids who need to be entertained.
