The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Danny Ramirez has teased his character’s transformation into the new Falcon in a Screen Rant exclusive interview. The actor plays Joaquín Torres in the series, a supporting character in the cast led by Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes. As tension builds going into the show’s final episode, some big MCU power shifts could be on the way.

In the comics, Joaquín Torres becomes the new Falcon after Sam dons the mantle of Captain America. His version of the winged hero has been a member of the Champions, a stalwart partner to Captain America, and an accomplished hero in his own right. Torres is an actual human/bird hybrid in the comics – part of Sam’s own original story that was changed in bringing him to the MCU. With Phase 4 setting up new heroes for the future of the franchise, Torres’ addition has been of particular interest to fans of the comics.

It sounds like the new Falcon may be taking flight very soon. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Danny Ramirez discussed the show, the character of Torres, and his potential future in the MCU. When asked about Torres’ repairs of Sam’s mechanical wings – wings he left behind after accepting his new role as Captain America – the actor seemed to tease his character’s own transformation.

“Yeah, the repair – for whoever it may be. I think he is pretty good at repairing things, for sure. He knows his way around the tech, so I think he won’t have too much trouble repairing whatever he has to repair in whatever condition they’re in. I think he’ll have a good time with it. He’ll have a good time with it.”

With Sam set to go into battle with Captain America’s shield in episode 6, it would be exciting to see Torres fly in for a little air support. Falcon & Winter Soldier has largely been a story about passing the torch, and showing Torres’ transformation into a superhero alongside Sam’s Captain America debut would be a great moment. Of course, Ramirez hasn’t confirmed anything explicitly, so it’s possible the new Falcon could be held for a future MCU project.

Torres’ Falcon isn’t the only young superhero Falcon & Winter Soldier has teased. The introduction of Isaiah Bradley to the MCU also brought his grandson, Elijah, who in the comics becomes the superpowered hero Patriot. Phase 4 is setting up a number of other young heroes as well, such as Speed and Wiccan in WandaVision and Kate Bishop in the upcoming Hawkeye series. Those additions represent a changing of the guard that could keep the franchise rolling at full steam for years to come. The Falcon & Winter Soldier finale can hopefully solidify Joaquín Torres as a part of that future.
