Devolver Digital’s Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has introduced a plethora of unique rounds for its gameshow-styled battle royale. There are survival rounds where every player fights or bumbles for themselves, race rounds where only a certain number of winners can proceed, and team rounds where Fall Guys must work together to win. But Button Bashers, a game mode introduced during the 4.5 update of the fourth season, has an interesting spin on player dynamics.

In Button Bashers, Fall Guys do exactly as the title says: bash the buttons that light up yellow to score points. However, what makes this game mode unique is that its the first true one-on-one competition. Each player is paired with an opponent, and the person that has the highest score when the timer ends can proceed to the next round. With no other Fall Guys to tumble in the way, this season 4 challenge is a true test of the player’s skill. Here are some tips to defeat one’s fated rival.

Fall Guys Button Bashers Guide

Pay Attention to the Arena

  • There will always be a set amount buttons for each arena, neither increasing nor decreasing, and only one of those buttons will glow at a time. Knowing this, players ought to angle their camera so that as much of the arena is visible at once. That way, when the next glowing button appears, they’ll be able to run there as soon as possible to get a head start on their rival.

Know What Each Button Does

  • Although pressing the lit button raises the player’s score, they each have their own function as well. The buttons in front of the fans will turn them off or on, the one in the center will alter the intensity of gravity in the center of the stage (low gravity or high gravity), and the last two will activate or deactivate the light bridge leading to the elevated platform in the center. These all can be used for the player’s benefit, allowing them to reach the glowing button faster than their opponent. For instance, if the lit button is on the other side of the arena, use the wind from a nearby fan to fly across. Also, bashing the glowing button will still activate whatever property it normally does, so be prepared for changes in the arena.

Know How to Approach

  • While pressing buttons may help the player out, it may also hinder them. Wind created by the fan will blow away any Fall Guys trying to jump onto a button below the fan’s range. When this happens, approach from the front, and not from the sides, so that the wind won’t be in the way. Also, pay attention to the gravity in the center. When it’s on low, jumping in it is nigh useless, as players will be pushed toward the ground.

There’s Little Time for Griefing

  • This isn’t a team game. Grabbing onto the rival and preventing them from going anywhere won’t be as effective, as each player must get a high score on their own. The best way to stay ahead is to head straight for each glowing button and outdo the opponent. The best time to disrupt the rival is if the countdown starts to reach zero and the player is already winning. That way, they won’t be able to gain any more points and the player can hang onto their lead.
