A dedicated Fallout 3 fan has hidden the iconic bobbleheads around Washington DC, bringing the most harmless aspect of the Fallout franchise to the real world. Fallout games are full of quirky content, including Easter eggs from other franchises like Star Wars and Monty Python, along with the Wasteland’s super mutants and a kid in a fridge in Fallout 4. The franchise showcases what the post-nuclear world could look like, paired with the immersive gameplay and expansive open worlds Bethesda is known for.

Fallout is noted by many as one of the most influential open-world RPGs, and the six titles in the franchise have all remained extremely popular among fans. While the idea of a nuclear war is quite frightening to think about, Fallout‘s adventure makes the concept more palatable and entertaining. The large maps of Fallout have plenty of crafting, fighting, factions, and secrets to uncover, but many fans are hopeful that the long-awaited Fallout 5 could address an open-world problem many RPGs face, since the environment can seem a bit empty or tedious at times.

Thankfully, the post-nuclear conditions of Fallout are not reality, but a talented and committed fan of Bethesda’s franchise has brought an iconic piece of Fallout 3 to the real world. As reported by PCGamesN, a Redditor called Mafnxxx has dedicated their time to creating Vault Boy Bobbleheads and hiding them around Washington DC, in the locations they could be found in-game. Mafnxxx utilized a 3D printer to create little statues that are identical to those seen in Fallout 3, which give the player unique buffs when they’re picked up.

Mafnxxx’s venture is impressive, and it’s clear that appreciation for the Fallout franchise is not dying out any time soon, especially with the upcoming release of an interesting Fallout Tabletop RPG, in which players can finally play as a non-human character. Mafnxxx visited 20 Washington DC locations in total, from Arlington Cemetery to a school in Fairfax where Fallout 3‘s terrifying Dunwich Building is. Excitingly, some responses to Mafnxxx’s post have stated that they have begun finding some of the Bobbleheads themselves.

Between the unexpected tabletop game, the eventual fifth title, and the upcoming Amazon TV show, Fallout‘s intriguing post-nuclear setting has garnered a very wide audience. Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 5 will be the next release after the other popular RPG franchise title Elder Scrolls 6 is launched. Bethesda fans also have the outer space-themed open-world RPG Starfield to look forward to next year. At least searching for Fallout 3‘s Bobbleheads in real life can keep the community busy for now.
