Fallout 76 launched in 2018 and introduced multiplayer to Bethesda’s long-running popular Fallout series. The title, however, suffered from multiple controversies and a disappointing launch. In an attempt to resuscitate the game, Bethesda fixed ongoing issues with minor patches, followed by bigger updates to draw back players and grow its community. Fallout 76‘s first big update came with Wastelanders, which fixed almost a thousand bugs and overhauled the experience with a storyline, NPCs, and reintroduced dialog trees seen in previous Fallout games. Wastelanders was followed up by The Legendary Run which added seasons to the title, offering players a progression system with in-game awards similar to other online battle passes.

Showcased with an overview trailer, Bethesda has officially launched its newest major Fallout 76 update – Night of the Moth – with a variety of new content and improvements to help solidify its multiplayer experience. Based on the mythical West Virginian Mothman, the update kicks off with the Mothman Equinox timed seasonal event that ends December 21. Heading to the top of the Mothman Museum at Point Pleasant, players can aid The Enlightened, a Wise Mothman cult, by speaking to Beholder Clarence and completing a series of objectives to summon the creature. During the seven-phase ritual, players will be tasked with time-limited objectives such as hunting down rival Cultist High Priests, and can earn exclusive themed rewards once completed.

Alongside the Mothman Equinox, Fallout 76‘s new season of content adds new tiers and teases rewards such as a Dr. Zorbo outfit, an Alien Shooting Gallery, and a Vault Boy West Virginia Slot Machine, with many more to be unlocked as players progress. A new Pirate-themed Radio station is also being introduced and features brand-new new tunes and shenanigans to keep Wastelanders interested as they explore Appalachia. Lastly, the online title is getting a handful of quality-of-life improvements like nearby corpse looting, legendary loot sharing, Pip-boy menu color customization, numerous bug fixes, and more.

The Mothman is one of the most popular legends from Appalachian folklore and previously appeared in Fallout 76 as a rare enemy type with rare loot. While Night of the Moth marks the final update for Fallout 76 for the year, players can expect plenty of content and updates heading to Bethesda’s multiplayer title in 2022, including the possibility of another adventure based on the mystical West Virginia creature.
