A new mod for Fallout: New Vegas adds many of the cut NPCs from the New Vegas Strip back into the game, giving the area a larger population and restoring the original intent of the developers for the location. Fallout: New Vegas, which was developed by Obsidian Entertainment, has become one of the series’ most successful installments and remains popular with the modding community. This has led to the creation of large add-ons that introduce dozens of hours of new content and even new gameplay features such as functioning vehicles.

Although Fallout: New Vegas had its fair share of technical and performance problems when it released in 2010, the game remains one of the most popular entries in the long-running series. Fans have been requesting a sequel for years and following Microsoft’s deal to acquire Bethesda, a follow-up could actually happen. After all, the company now owns Fallout IP holder Bethesda and the original developer Obsidian Entertainment.

Modder PushTheWinButton has released a new mod for Fallout: New Vegas that restores many of the cut NPCs from the New Vegas Strip. According to the Nexus Mods listing, a lot of the content from this area was cut from the final game. This includes some 14 NPCs who were almost fully complete but disabled, likely to improve the performance of a title famous for its technical issues.

PushTheWinButton details the process of restoring the content saying, “There are actually a fair number of perfectly functional, mostly-implemented NPCs already placed around the Strip, but they were likely cut late in development for performance reasons on console.” The modder doesn’t think anyone else has been able to add these NPCs back into Fallout: New Vegas before, which includes five gamblers and four travelers along with an MP and NCR trooper and a single Securitron.

Players on Xbox who want to try out Fallout: New Vegas or return to the game are in luck. The title is one of 20 games that have been added to Xbox Game Pass. That means anyone with an active subscription can download and play the game right now. Joining Fallout: New Vegas are games like Doom Eternal, Dishonored, and The Evil Within. The collection of Bethesda titles were added to the service as a way of celebrating Microsoft’s acquisition of the publisher and its eight development studios.

Fallout: New Vegas remains one of the best Fallout games and, despite releasing more than a decade ago, still receives a large amount of attention from the modding community. Many of these mods have focused on restoring cut content from the title, giving players a better idea of what the developers originally intended before the limitations of the hardware available at the time forced them to remove some elements. Hopefully, the continued interest in Fallout: New Vegas will help make the case for a potential sequel.
