Amazon’s upcoming Fallout series casts Yellowjackets star Ella Purnell in an unknown role. Based on the popular video game franchise of the same name, the show will focus on an alternate world where a nuclear war in 2077 has ravaged the globe. Conceived by Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, work on the Fallout series was first confirmed by Amazon in July 2020, with Nolan touted to direct the pilot episode. Both Joy and Nolan, as well as Athena Wickham, are attached to executive produce the project through Kilter Films, in addition to Todd Howard for Bethesda Game Studios and James Altman for Bethesda Softworks.

As reported by Variety, Purnell is the latest star to join the post-apocalyptic series. While exact details about her character are being kept under wraps, she is reportedly described as an upbeat and direct young woman, with a can-do attitude and all-American spirit that conceals something dangerous. The part is also touted as a leading role.

Purnell starred as Jackie in the first season of Showtime’s acclaimed drama series Yellowjackets, before her unfortunate demise in the show’s finale. Her other major titles include Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, Churchill, and Arcane. The 25-year-old is the second major casting choice to be confirmed for Fallout, following the announcement of Walton Goggins (Justified), who is allegedly set to play a ghoul-inspired character based on the irradiated humans featured in the video games. Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider) and Graham Wagner have also been brought on board as co-showrunners. Production on Falloutis scheduled to begin later this year.
