A Far Cry 6 player recently found themselves trapped in a third-person glitch that saw the game morph into a chaotic top-down experience. It’s worth noting that Far Cry 6 does feature third-person gameplay in some instances, particularly those where protagonist Dani Rojas wanders around ally camps. Players can’t toggle the option on and off at leisure, though, so the vast majority of the shooter takes place from the first-person perspective like every other Far Cry title.

Developer Ubisoft Toronto led production on the sixth mainline Far Cry entry, which drops players onto the fictional island of Yara amid a violent revolution. Dani Rojas joins the cause for their people, helping to unify disparate insurgent groups on the island to present a united front against Yara’s ruthless dictator, Antón Castillo. Like several other Far Cry titles before it, this particular adventure follows the open-world Ubisoft formula; however, the experience walks its own path here and there to mix things up with regards to the way players tackle the overarching narrative.

While Far Cry 6’s gameplay did receive a fair few refinements, players continue to encounter the occasional glitch. Reddit user CortezOnline ran into an interesting error during a recent play session, in which the game locked them into third-person perspective in the open-world environment. Such a bug doesn’t sound too bad on its own, yet the camera’s switch to a top-down view every now and then complicated things. In the gameplay footage featured below, the player seems to have very little control over Dani’s and the camera’s general movements. Simple tasks like getting into a vehicle appear nigh on impossible to accomplish, too.

Of course, now there’s one question on the minds of many fans – when will Ubisoft green light a Hotline Miami-like top-down shooter for Far Cry? Previous experimental content releases suggest it’s not at all beyond the realm of possibility. Far Cry 3’s beloved Blood Dragon DLC allows players to explore a cyberpunk, 80s-style vision of the future featuring dinosaurs. Meanwhile, the expansions for Far Cry 6 star classic villains in roguelike adventures. The above footage indicates a top-down entry would at least prove interesting. (So long as it’s not as glitch-filled as this, of course.)

Uncorroborated rumors point to a live-service model as the next step for Far Cry. When taking Ubisoft’s other ventures into consideration, such claims could mean anything since titles like The Division 2 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla approach the persistent nature of the service model from different angles. Thus, there’s no way of predicting what Far Cry 7 may entail, especially since series Creative Director Day Hay exited the company late last year.

Far Cry 6 is playable on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
