That begins with Fast & Furious 9. According to Deadline, online ticketing site Fandango reports F9 is set to be the biggest pre-seller yet of 2021. It is already outpacing the presales for A Quiet Place Part II, indicating it will become the new record-holder for the pandemic’s biggest opening weekend. The current projections suggest Fast & Furious 9 will open in the $50 million to $60 million range, with some even suggesting it could hit $70 million. While that wouldn’t be breaking records for the franchise (Furious 7 hit a $147.1 million opening in 2015), it would be a huge win for theaters during this shaky time.

Fandango also polled audiences about what they’re most excited to see in Fast & Furious 9, with the “outrageous stunts and action on the big screen” being the biggest selling point at 98%. Despite several major films adopting a streaming release alongside their theatrical runs, the minds behind F9 have insisted this is a theaters-only experience. That element will surely drum up the ticket sales this weekend, though it’s still anyone’s guess as to where exactly it will end.
