The Fear Street trilogy has come to an end, but a question remains: why did Nick Goode send the witch’s henchmen after Sam? The horror genre has been going through a great run in recent years after hitting a rough patch in the 1990s and early 2000s, and streaming platforms have given studios a lot of creative freedom when it comes to telling horror stories. One of the most recent examples is the Fear Street trilogy, released on Netflix and which was marketed as a three-week event, with one movie released per week.

Based on the book series of the same name by R.L. Stine, Fear Street tells the story of Sarah Fier, a woman accused of witchcraft and executed as a result, and whose death made way for a curse that haunted the town of Shadyside and its residents for years. Fear Street Part One: 1994 introduced the audience to the basic concept of the curse and to the characters that would lead the trilogy, with Fear Street Part Two: 1978 telling the story of Ziggy Berman (Sadie Sink and Gillian Jacobs), the only person known to have seen the witch and lived to tell the story. The final entry in the trilogy, Fear Street Part Three: 1666 told the backstory of Sarah Fier and the curse, and revealed who was truly responsible for it: Solomon Goode, sheriff Nick Goode’s ancestor.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Viewers met Nick Goode in Fear Street Part One as he was Shadyside’s sheriff and the one who let Ziggy know the killings were happening again. In Fear Street Part Two it was revealed that Nick and Ziggy went to Camp Nightwing together and were attracted to each other, and the final movie showed that Nick had carried on with the Goodes’ legacy of giving Satan a human sacrifice in order to keep their deal, which is why he chose Ryan Torres as the masked killer, though that didn’t explain why he also sent the killers after Sam (Olivia Scott Welch).

After learning about Ziggy’s survival, Deena (Kiana Madeira) came to the conclusion that the only way to save Sam was by killing her and bringing her back, which she did, but that wasn’t enough to stop the curse. Sam was possessed not long after, which led Deena and her brother Josh (Benjamin Flores Jr.) to ask Ziggy for help, as she also died and was revived after her encounter with the witch. However, Ziggy wasn’t possessed after she came back, but Sam was, leading viewers to question why Sam became a target of the witch and her henchmen, especially as the blood sacrifice had already been fulfilled by Ryan Torres/Skull Mask. Nick Goode sent the killers after Sam and had her possessed in order to cover his tracks, as Sam, Deena, and Josh already knew too much and they witnessed many of the murders, so he wanted to have Sam kill Deena and her brother.

Ziggy, on the other hand, posed no threat to the Goodes’ secret, as there was no way anyone was going to believe her about the curse and the possession of Tommy Slater, and of course, there’s also the fact that Nick liked Ziggy. Ultimately, Deena managed to kill Nick Goode in Fear Street Part Three and put an end to the curse, with Sam being freed from it and the killers disappearing, so Nick had good reasons to fear Deena and company, who ended up being the true heroes of Shadyside and his and his family’s crimes were finally exposed.
