A new image from Fear the Walking Dead season 7 reveals the official return of Madison Clark. Fear was the first of many spinoffs of the long-running zombie apocalypse drama The Walking Dead, which began airing on AMC in 2010 and is currently airing the second of three parts of its final season. Fear the Walking Dead, which premiered in 2015 and is now airing season 7, originally took place before the events of the main show, though the timelines have now converged and, after Fear the Walking Dead season 7, met up with the timeline of the early seasons of The Walking Dead.

For the first four seasons, one of the lead characters of the series was Madison Clark played by Kim Dickens. She was a guidance counselor who worked hard to protect her children Nick (Frank Dillane) and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) from the burgeoning zombie apocalypse. Her last appearance was on season 4 episode 8, “No One’s Gone,” in which she was presumed dead after locking herself in a baseball stadium with a horde of Walkers to help protect the other survivors.

Now, EW just shared a brand new photo from Fear the Walking Dead season 7 that reveals Dickens in her long-awaited return. She is wearing the exact same leather jacket she was last seen in and is in a mysterious interrogation room. While the circumstances surrounding her supposed death and eventual return have yet to be explored, they’re likely related to the recent return of other presumed dead characters Cole (Sebastian Sozzi), Douglas (Kenneth Wayne Bradley), and Vivian (Rhoda Griffis). Check out the full-size image below:

Madison is not currently guaranteed to be on every remaining episode of this season, which is returning with its midseason premiere on April 17, 2022. Likewise, the remainder of Fear the Walking Dead season 7 doesn’t have much time in which to explore her character (after the midseason premiere, there are only 7 episodes remaining before the finale). However, it has also been confirmed that Dickens will be bumped back up to a series regular for Fear the Walking Dead season 8 which means that not only is Madison here to stay, but that her activities since her disappearance will likely be explored in great detail at some point in the future.

Because of the dangerous nature of the Walking Dead universe, there is no telling how long Dickens will be able to stay on the series after that. As a series regular in Fear the Walking Dead season 8, she’ll certainly be around for a good chunk of time in the upcoming episodes, but it’s possible that she could be brought back for an even more tragic end. Until then, though, it seems almost certain that Dickens’ triumphant return as Madison will be something to celebrate, even if the franchise certainly has no compunction about killing off major characters. Now that Fear the Walking Dead has reversed the supposed deaths of a huge handful of characters, they’re poised to gut punch the audience by sending some of them to their actual demise sooner than later.
