A subtle Easter egg has been discovered in Final Fantasy VII Remake by an eagle-eyed Reddit user. The Easter egg references one of the many albums made containing music from the Final Fantasy franchise. Those curious can find the shoutout in Seventh Heaven.

While originally marketed as a standard retelling of the beloved PlayStation classic, Final Fantasy VII Remake is actually a new take on the world and story originally introduced in 1997. While many stories and gameplay elements have changed drastically, Seventh Heaven still remains important. It is a restaurant owned by party member Tifa Lockheart, with the basement serving as the secret base for Avalanche. There are some new features – a jukebox and a darts minigame, for example – but the location is overall the same.

There are some new Easter eggs in the decor, however. Reddit user roy_the_great posted a screenshot of a small plaque on the wall. The plaque depicts a piano and is engraved with the text “thank you for the wonderful memories.” The piano directly matches the cover of the “Piano Collections: Final Fantasy VII” album, a CD containing piano arrangements of select songs from the game. The sign was spotted by using photo mode to get a better look at the restaurant. It is not the only Final Fantasy Easter egg hidden in Seventh Heaven, however. In the comments, roy_the_great revealed a hidden license plate with some shoutouts as the numbers. Tifa’s birthday can be seen on the plate, along with her age. Cloud’s age, height, and birthday are also listed on the plate.

Fans are pleased to find such a sweet reference. One commenter speculates that the “thank you” might be a message from a former fan who now has the chance to work on Final Fantasy VII Remake. It’s possible it could also be an homage to the dedicated fanbase returning for the remake. Neither theory has been confirmed.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is an interesting example of something being incredibly faithful to the original material, while still having a distinct identity of its own. This makes it both accessible to new players and enticing for veterans interested in double-dipping. Easter eggs like the ones mentioned above expand on that philosophy. Newcomers may not understand the references, but old-timers are sure to smile at the shoutout. However minor, these little callbacks are sure to endear themselves to players, no matter their history.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available now on PlayStation.
