An upcoming update for Season 2 of Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier will add content from Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII, including a new boss battle against Bahamut Fury, and skins based on Zack and Tifa. FF7 The First Soldier recently added retro skins based on the blocky PS1 sprites of the FF7 cast, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game’s launch.

FF7 The First Soldier is a battle royale game for mobile phones. It’s technically the earliest game in the FF7 timeline, as it depicts the formation of the SOLDIER unit. While light on lore, it’s possible that future updates could add more story content. This is especially likely especially as FF7 The First Soldier content will be included in the upcoming FF7 Ever Crisis mobile game, suggesting there is more story content on the horizon.

A future update for FF7 The First Soldier will add more familiar content for FF7‘s 25th-anniversary celebrations. A new update on the official Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier website and on the official Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier Twitter account has revealed that the game will add Crisis Core content in March, as part of Season 2. Players will be able to earn skins based on Zack Fair and Tifa’s cowgirl outfit, which she wears during the Nibelheim flashback section of FF7, and is seen wearing again in Crisis Core.

It was also revealed that the Bahamut Fury summon from Crisis Core will appear as a boss in FF7 The First Soldier. This boss battle will create a field that will prevent players from being able to harm each other. The intention is for players to temporarily stop fighting and team up so that they can take on the mammoth dragon together. Bahamut Fury will appear in the training field in standard matches from 3/17 until 3/31. Fans have speculated that Bahamut Fury could appear in FF7 Remake 2, and its appearance in FF7 The First Soldier could hint at a future return.

Zack Fair is one of the most popular FF7 characters, especially following his starring role in Crisis Core and its depiction of his last stand against the Shinra army. The new ending of the FF7 Remake has saved Zack from his fate and is setting him up for a larger role in the story ahead. The popularity of Zack is such that he even made an appearance in the Kingdom Hearts series, where he was the only Final Fantasy character to appear in Birth by Sleep (barring the Moogles). Crisis Core itself deserves a remaster or a remake on modern systems, and the recent glut of Square Enix ports to modern systems means that it could happen someday. For the time being, fans will have to be satisfied with using the Zack skin in FF7 The First Soldier, until he makes his return in a future FF7 Remake game.
