Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker has completely changed the Summoner job. While the expansion has greatly pushed the new Sage and Reaper job, both Summoner and Monk are also practically new options as well. Both returning Summoner and brand newcomers will want to know how the caster job now plays.

Those downloading patch 6.0 may be a bit confused by how much weaker all jobs seem. This is strictly due to stats being shrunk across all of FFXIV. In many cases, DPS may have had their final damage numbers lowered, but in many cases, their speed and total performance enhanced.

Many of the changes to Summoner in FFXIV are also baked into the base class of Arcanist. However, this does not necessarily extend into Scholar. Those that are actively switching between DPS and Healer roles should keep these concepts and systems separate.

Adjusted Concepts in Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker

FFXIV 6.0 has removed several major gameplay staples from Summoner that were key since A Realm Reborn. The first is the removal of all damage over time attacks. This includes the loss of Bio and Miasma. Other related skills like Fester exist in name, but has its functionality changed. Among the adjusted older FFXIV moves includes-

  • Ruin: potency greatly increased, cast time lowered, MP cost increased.
  • Energy Drain: learned at level 10 instead of 18, potency doubled, recast time doubled.
  • Fester: learned at level 10 instead of 18, potency tripled, recast greatly shortened, no longer affected by other attacks.
  • Outburst: learned at level 26 (Arcanist) instead of 40, potency increased, recast shortened, MP cost decreased.
  • Ruin 2: learned at level 30 instead of 38 and from Job Quests, potency greatly increased, MP cost decreased.
  • Painflare: learned at level 40 instead of 52 and from Job Quests, potency increased
  • Energy Siphon: learned at level 52 instead of 35 and from Job Quests, potency greatly increased, recast time doubled.
  • Ruin 3: potency increased, recast shortened, MP cost increased.
  • Dreadwyrm Trance: now a spell (countered by silence) instead of ability (countered by amnesia). Grants Astral Impulse and Astral Flare use.
  • Deathflare: no longer ends Dreadwyrm Trance when used, damage falloff on area effect increased to 60%, potency increased, recast time increased.
  • Ruin 4: now hits a 5 yalm radius instead of single target – 60% falloff on area of effect, MP cost doubled.
  • Summon Bahamut: now instantly enters Dreadwyrm Trance when summoned.
  • Tri-Disaster: deals damage in a 5 yalm radius with no damage falloff.
  • Addle: lowers target’s physical damage by 5% and magical damage by 10%.
  • Lucid Dream: MP recovery amount increased.

New Additions in Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker

FFXIV Endwalker has completely altered Egis from constant automatic attackers to using attacks and buffs as a natural part of the Summoner’s own rotation. Additionally, Carbuncle is now the default pet who will gain powers while still an Arcanist or level synced below 30; they will gain fire, earth, and wind-related attacks during this time. Post level 30, players can temporarily bring out Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda as needed. Both Bahamut and Phoenix have also been upgraded.

Carbuncle Moves

Carbuncle will now be the main pet that follows players around, all the way through the late-game level 90 content. Their ability kit now includes-

  • Radiant Aegis: learned at level 2, absorbs damage totaling 20% of target’s HP, 30 yalm range and single target, 30-second duration, two charges.
  • Searing Light: learned at level 66, increases damage dealt by the party by 3%, point-blank range but 15 yalm radius, 30 second duration.

Elemental Rotation

Carbuncle now gains elemental power through the use of the level 6 spell Aethercharge in FFXIV. At first it will increase the damage potency of Ruin, Ruin 2, Ruin 3, and Outburst. However, after its 15-second duration ends it will grant a single stack of Ruby Arcanum, Topaz Arcanum, and Emerald Arcanum each. At lower levels this allows Carbuncle to use elemental based powers, while at higher it will instead use Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda for similar moves. Additionally, dealing a Arcanum related attacks will alter the effects of other attacks.

  • Summon Ruby: deals 400 potency, grants 2 stacks of Fire Attunement.
  • Summon Ifrit: deals 600 potency to main target, 60% to others in the 5 yalm cone, grants 2 stacks of Fire Attunement and Ifrit’s Favor.
  • Summon Topaz: deals 400 potency, grants 4 stacks of Earth Attunement.
  • Summon Titan: deals 600 potency to main target, 60% to others in the 5 yalm radius, grants 4 stacks of Earth Attunement and Titan’s Favor.
  • Summon Emerald: deals 400 potency, grants 4 stacks of Wind Attunement.
  • Summon Garuda: deals 600 potency to main target, 60% to others in the 5 yalm radius, grants 4 stacks of Wind Attunement and Garuda’s Favor.
  • Gemshine: attunes attacks based on current Arcanum.
  • Attuned Ruin: deal 300 potency with Fire, 240 potency with Earth, or 160 potency with Wind.
  • Attuned Outburst: deals 140 potency with Fire, 110 potency with Earth, or 70 potency with Wind.
  • Attuned Ruin 2: deals 340 potency with Fire, 270 potency with Earth, or 170 potency with Wind.
  • Attuned Ruin 3: deals 360 potency with Fire, 300 potency with Earth, or 180 potency with Wind.
  • Attuned Tri-Disaster: deals 170 potency with Fire, 130 potency with Earth, or 90 potency with Wind.
  • Astral Flow: unleashes a powerful attack matching current Favor.
  • Crimson Cyclone: Ifrit’s first Favor, rush into melee dealing 430 potency to main target, 65% to others in a 5 yalm radius
  • Crimson Strike: Ifrit’s second Favor, deal melee damage of 430 potency to main target, 65% to others in a 5 yalm radius
  • Mountain Buster: Titan’s Favor, deal 150 potency damage, 75% to others in the 5 yalm radius
  • Slipstream: Garuda’ Favor, deals 430 potency damage, leaves a 5 yalm windstorm that deals 30 potency for 15 seconds (450 total).

Bahamut and Phoenix Summons

Bahamut and Phoenix have also been slightly altered with new powers and spells; for example, Hellish Conduit has been removed, but still requires FFXIV’s Firebird Trance. Most importantly, summoning either will grant full stacks of all three Arcanum. This means it is best to summon one of these demi-primals, use a full elemental rotation, and then summon the other for a second elemental rotation without the need of Aethercharge.

  • Akh Morn: potency increased to 1300, 60% for all others in the 5 yalm radius, shares a recast timer with Revelation.
  • Fountain of Fire: potency increased to 430, MP cost increased.
  • Brand of Purgatory: deal 180 potency damage in an 8 yalm radius, no damage falloff, added MP cost.
  • Rekindle: restore HP with a potency of 400, target receives a 200 cure potency for 15 seconds.
  • Revelation: potency increased to 1300, 60% for all others in the 5 yalm radius, shares a recast timer with Akh Morn.
