Final Fantasy XIVreceived a few important changes with its recent Patch 6.08 update, including some buffs to help even out any imbalances between combat jobs. Though the game is known for having well-balanced combat jobs that are all viable for high-end content, the developers strive to keep it as even as possible. As such, they frequently make adjustments according to the needs of each job, as they did with this latest patch.

The primary issues addressed by Patch 6.08 were server congestion and job balance. To resolve the former, Square Enix officially added the Oceania Data Center to relieve congestion in FFXIV. In order to further balance out the various combat jobs, numerous buffs were added to different job actions.

The biggest buffs in FFXIV‘s 6.08 patch went to Paladin, Dragoon, Ninja, Samurai, Dancer, and Black Mage. A few moderate buffs went to Machinist and Summoner, and Warrior and Monk each received a buff to just one ability. These changes were exciting for many fans, particularly those who regularly play the jobs with the biggest buffs. Yet, there are still a lot of fans who were disappointed that their jobs didn’t receive the buffs they were hoping for.

FFXIV – Paladin Buffs In Patch 6.08

Paladin has been the featured job for Endwalker, FFXIV’s most recent expansion. In the trailers and promotional material, the Warrior of Light is depicted as a Paladin. Despite this, Paladin was trailing behind the other tank jobs in terms of damage output. With Patch 6.08, the development team corrected this. The following changes were made to Paladin job actions:

  • Spirits Within – Potency has been increased from 250 to 270.
  • Expiacion – Potency has been increased from 300 to 340.
  • Blade of Faith – Potency has been increased from 250 to 420.
  • Blade of Truth – Potency has been increased from 350 to 500.
  • Blade of Valor – Potency has been increased from 420 to 580.

Dragoon Buffs In FFXIV’s Patch 6.08

Dragoon was the featured job in the Song of Ice and Fire-inspired FFXIV: Heavensward, and it has been a favorite of many fans for years. Players who have spent time as a Dragoon may be sad to learn that the channeling animation of the Dragon Sight ability has been removed. However, considering that other players sometimes get confused by the animation and try to avoid it for fear it’s a bad thing, the change is probably for the best.

Of course, the major buffs to Dragoon damage in Patch 6.08 should be enough to console anyone who is sad to see the animation go. Many of the changes introduced are positive. The following changes were made to Dragoon job actions:

  • Dragon Sight – Range has been extended from 12y to 30y. Target party member is no longer required to remain within 12y in order to receive the effects of Left Eye. The channeling animation between the dragoon and their target has been removed.
  • Raiden Thrust – Potency has been increased from 260 to 280.
  • Stardiver – Potency has been increased from 500 to 620.
  • Heavens’ Thrust – Combo potency has been increased from 430 to 480.
  • Chaotic Spring – Combo potency has been increased from 240 to 260. Rear combo potency has been increased from 280 to 300.

Ninja Buffs In FFXIV’s Patch 6.08

This isn’t the first FFXIV: Endwalker patch fixing a Ninja ability. But this time around, the only changes are increases in the potency of certain skills. The following changes were made to Ninja job actions:

  • Spinning Edge – Potency has been increased from 200 to 210.
  • Gust Slash – Potency has been increased from 140 to 160. Combo potency has been increased from 300 to 320.
  • Aeolian Edge – Potency has been increased from 120 to 140. Rear attack potency has been increased from 180 to 200. Combo potency has been increased from 340 to 360. Rear combo potency has been increased from 400 to 420.
  • Armor Crush – Potency has been increased from 120 to 140. Flank attack potency has been increased from 180 to 200. Combo potency has been increased from 320 to 340. Flank combo potency has been increased from 380 to 400.
  • Hyosho Ranryu – Potency has been increased from 1,200 to 1,300.

FFXIV – Samurai Buffs In Patch 6.08

Samurai was introduced and featured in FFXIV’s Stormblood expansion, and for a long time, it was known for having massive damage output. However, it started to fall behind after FFXIV: Endwalker’s release, and Patch 6.08 attempted to correct this. The following changes were made to Samurai job actions:

  • Hakaze – Potency has been increased from 150 to 180.
  • Jinpu – Combo potency has been increased from 250 to 280.
  • Shifu – Combo potency has been increased from 250 to 280.
  • Ogi Namikiri – Potency has been increased from 800 to 900.
  • Kaeshi: Namikiri – Potency has been increased from 1,200 to 1,350.

Machinist Buffs In FFXIV Patch 6.08

The Machinist job was added in FFXIV: Heavensward. Though the gun-wielding job’s cool aesthetic has won over quite a few fans, others haven’t been impressed with the damage numbers it puts out. The adjustments in Patch 6.08 were minimal, and a lot of fans were disappointed they weren’t able to see the job get bigger buffs.

The Machinist job is probably in need of further attention. However, there’s always the chance that more changes could come in future patches. The following changes were made to Machinist job actions:

  • Drill – Potency has been increased from 550 to 570.
  • Air Anchor – Potency has been increased from 550 to 570.
  • Chain Saw – Potency has been increased from 550 to 570.

FFXIV – Dancer Buffs In Patch 6.08

Dancer was introduced to FFXIV with Shadowbringers, which released before Endwalker. A key function of the job is buffing other party members, and this utility has historically made it a popular choice for high-end content. It fell out of favor with some players recently due to its damage lagging too far behind, but Patch 6.08 likely resolved this. The following changes were made to Dancer job actions:

  • Cascade – Potency has been increased from 180 to 220.
  • Fountain – Combo potency has been increased from 240 to 280.
  • Reverse Cascade – Potency has been increased from 240 to 280.
  • Fountainfall – Potency has been increased from 300 to 340.
  • Technical Finish – 4 Steps potency has been increased from 1,080 to 1,200.

The Black Mage Job Received Multiple Buffs In FFXIV’s Patch 6.08

Black Mage typically sits near the top of the damage meter in FFXIV, but more recently, it started to slip down. As one of the most complex and least mobile jobs, Black Mage’s appeal typically comes from its high damage ceiling, which was boosted in Patch 6.08. The following changes were made to Black Mage job actions:

  • Fire III – Potency has been increased from 240 to 260.
  • Blizzard III – Potency has been increased from 240 to 260.
  • Blizzard IV – Potency has been increased from 300 to 310.
  • Fire IV – Potency has been increased from 300 to 310.
  • Xenoglossy – Potency has been increased from 660 to 760.

FFXIV – Summoner Buffs In Patch 6.08

Summoner was completely reworked in FFXIV: Endwalker, so it’s only to be expected that the job would need some tuning here and there in the following patches. The following changes were made to Summoner job actions:

  • Astral Impulse – Potency has been increased from 430 to 440.
  • Ruby Rite – Potency has been increased from 430 to 450.
  • Fountain of Fire – Potency has been increased from 520 to 540.

Other FFXIV Job Buffs In Patch 6.08

Warrior and Monk each received a buff to just one job action in FFXIV’s Patch 6.08. The ranged Warrior attack Tomahawk had its potency increased from 100 to 150. Since tanks are rarely in a position that requires the use of ranged attacks, some fans were surprised to see the change. Final Fantasy XIV‘s Monk weaponskill Phantom Rush had its potency increased from 1,000 to 1,150. Fans weren’t expecting to see Monk get any buffs because it was already one of the top-performing DPS jobs before the patch.

While some fans got all the job buffs they were hoping for in Patch 6.08, and some got even more than they expected, others still were disappointed that their job received few to no improvements. The good news is that Final Fantasy XIV has a history of keeping all its jobs viable for high-end content, which means fans should be able to play any job they want without stressing too much about how it compares to others. And of course, for fans who didn’t get to see the adjustments they wanted, there’s always the next patch.
