Healers in Final Fantasy XIV have the vital task of keeping the party alive while maintaining sufficient damage, and Tanks have many ways they can help shorten the time the role spends healing everyone. Every member of the party is working together toward the same goal and needs to keep in mind their role as to not hinder other players. Tanks, for example, can help make the Healer’s job easier by keeping the focus of attacks primarily on themselves, communicating with the party, and learning game mechanics.

The three primary roles in the game – DPS, Healer, and Tank – have specific responsibilities they need to manage to efficiently complete an activity. Tanks mitigate party damage, DPS jobs focus on defeating enemies as quickly as possible, and Healers sustain the party long enough to attain victory. Having the right party and job combinations in FFXIV can make fights much easier. Dungeons are completed by a Light Party, consisting of a Tank, a Healer, and two DPS jobs, while Trials and Normal Raids require that two Tanks, Two Healers, and Four DSP jobs form a Full Party. Three Full Parties, 24 players, are necessary to participate in an Alliance Raid. Both Healers and Tanks working in tandem are crucial to beating each fight.

One of the most important things adventurers can do is communicate with the rest of the party. In low-level content, most Healers do not have the ability to instant cast, so they can’t heal on the move. If a Tank doesn’t talk to the party, problems will arise when pulling too many groups of enemies. Healers may not be able to heal through the damage, causing the party to wipe. Some players in FFXIV find healing rewarding in such a situation, but others could be uncomfortable with the amount of damage being done to the Tank. Adventurers that have never played a Healer, may not know that to finish casting a healing spell, the character being healed must be within the line of sight of the caster. Tanks that run behind a corner, stop the casting and miss out on the much-needed heals. These are a few issues that may arise without communication in the party, but there are also problems that can occur if the Tank does not learn the proper game mechanics.

Tanks In Final Fantasy XIV Can Help Healers By Avoiding Unnecessary Damage

Before starting difficult Duties, FFXIV players can practice their rotation on training dummies, found in major cities and outside Free Company houses. When entering an activity, adventurers that are playing a Tank need to make sure that they have turned on their Tank stance. This ability makes sure the job is generating sufficient enmity to draw the attention of foes away from the rest of the party members. Tanks also have excellent damage mitigation skills and should not be afraid to use them when needed because they will be ready by the time a big fight starts. Learning attack patterns of enemies and other game mechanics, like when to stack or avoid AoEs, is also paramount to not taking unnecessary damage, causing the Healer to stop attacking the enemies.

One of the best ways to learn to play a job is with FFXIV‘s Trust system. This allows adventurers to complete dungeons with NPCs from the main story and focus on their own gameplay. Other players are always willing to help and communication is key to succeeding in the game. Both Tanks and Healers in FFXIV are working towards the same goal and talking to each other makes for a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
