A virtual meeting between Italian lawmakers was recently interrupted by a very NSFW video featuring Final Fantasy VII Remake‘s Tifa Lockhart. A childhood friend of Cloud Strife and a loyal member of the underground resistance movement called Team AVALANCHE, Tifa is just one of the many popular characters who inhabit Square Enix’s beloved Final Fantasy VII. She is so well-liked that fans have created plenty of artwork depicting Tifa with short hair or a more muscular physique. On the other hand, the internet has also produced plenty of decidedly less wholesome works of the spunky bartender-turned-resistance fighter, something that’s all too common in the world of video game characters.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

While not an overtly political story, Final Fantasy VII does deal with several serious real-world topics like environmentalism and corporate corruption, things that often turn up in political debates and government meetings. Despite some recent statements from Square Enix’s president that seem to contradict Final Fantasy VII’s overall themes, many fans consider Final Fantasy VII to be an incredibly thought-provoking title that still resonates even nearly three decades after its original release on the first PlayStation. However, one of Final Fantasy VII’s main characters recently found herself involved in real-world politics in a completely different and unexpected way.

Kotaku reports that members of the Italian Senate were holding a virtual meeting to discuss digital transparency in political discussion yesterday, one that was hosted by Five Star Movement Senator Maria Laura Mantovani. As Nobel Prize-winning physician Giorgio Parisi was just about to be introduced into the meeting, the conference call was suddenly hijacked by an unknown user who was viewing a hentai video featuring Tifa from Final Fantasy VII. The pornographic video played in front of the entire assembly for a full 30 seconds, with Mantovani initially unaware of what was going on as she continued her presentation. She only realized what had happened when one of the participants yelled something about a “sex offender,” at which time she struggled with one of her aides to kill the feed. Mantovani was soon able to get everything back on track, and Giorgio Parisi presented his remarks as if the whole incident never happened.

This bizarre, Tifa-related mishap comes right as fans are preparing to celebrate Final Fantasy VII’s 25th anniversary later this year. Players have begun to dive back into the world of Midgar with the long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake, which launched to much success back in 2020 and retold the early chapters of Cloud and company’s battle against the corrupt ShinRa Electric Power Company and the renegade SOLDIER Sephiroth. PC players recently got to join in the fun thanks to FFVIIR being ported to the Epic Games Store, but Square Enix is staying quiet on when the next installment of the series is going to be released.

As a member of AVALANCHE, Tifa sets out to change the world in Final Fantasy VII Remake, and appearing in a fan-made hentai video during an Italian Senate meeting probably isn’t what she or the developers had in mind. One could only imagine the sheer shock that Maria Laura Mantovani and the rest of the attendees experienced when Tifa appeared onscreen, proving that in the age of online conference calls, even a routine summit on political discussion can take a turn for the bizarre.
