Final Fantasy 7 Remake is finally here and RPGers rejoice for this brand new iteration of a long-standing classic complete with the Buster Sword and the upgrades to go along with it. During Cloud’s, and the rest of his teammates, travels back in Final Fantasy 7 Remake they’ll acquire numerous weapons along the way to beat harder and harder foes. With each weapon comes the ability to upgrade them and that is no small task to do.

In Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the upgrade system has had a huge overhaul but the biggest part of the system is allowing for base stats to be elevated, acquiring new skills, and getting new abilities as well. Different weapons have different base stats and also different ranges of slots for Materia, but we’ll concentrate more on how to get the Skill Points (SP) needed to get the weapons upgraded quickly and efficiently. The better the weapon, the better the combat and that means less grinding, which I can say we’re all a fan of so let’s get to it.

Skill Points in Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Skill Points are the lifeblood of weaponry. Without them, the weapons lose their power over time and the main heroes don’t learn anything new which causes them to be underpowered. Unlike Ability Points (AP), skill points are gotten by leveling up the characters in the game. AP points are gained when finishing battles which is much different. In other words, trying to gain levels as quickly as possible is the best route to get SP. Another quick method to getting SP is by collecting Moogle Medals that can be returned to the Moogle Emporium to buy SP with. Moogle Medals are strewn across the game in Shinra boxes so there’s no exact way to get them in a farmable manner which makes them less than ideal.

Quick XP methods in Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Since leveling up is the best way to get points, high XP enemies, completing side quests, and main quests are the best way to get up quickly. A good example of some quick XP locations would be the combat trainer in chapter four before invading the Shinra Warehouse where three robots come out can be easily killed for quick XP. This is probably not the best example but it’s a precursor for later on in Chapter 16 when getting to Shinra HQ and the Combat Simulator there is available. The first location is probably a better spot for AP but the SP with quick levels is definitely at the Shinra HQ location. In the combat simulator, there’s a three-person team challenge that can reward an XP Up Materia that will boost the XP gained of anyone equipping it so make this a priority when getting there.

Weapon Upgrade Strategy in Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Here’s a bit of a bonus because there are a lot of upgrades to choose from once upgrading occurs. A strong recommendation is to optimize the upgrades that will be more helpful to a character first. An example of this is since Cloud is more of a weapon based character, Weapon Damage and Defense are favored over something like Magic Power. True, we could use Magic Power for Cloud, although it doesn’t synergize with Cloud’s base stats as much as Aerith would. If more balanced gameplay is desired then this would be a route to take although not the most favorable. The Materia Slots above all other upgrades are the most favored as the more Materia that can be slotted, the more battle options open up for the different characters.
