Final Fantasy VII Remake contains a secret boss known as Pride and Joy. This guide will help players locate and defeat this post-game secret boss fight. The Final Fantasy VII Remake surprisingly includes plenty of new content for being a remake of an older title. This was one of the most heavily anticipated remakes of any game to ever release, as fans have pestered Square Enix for it ever since the PS2 days. The game released and was a critical success, regardless of the situation happening around the world with COVID-19. The game has sold over 3 million copies since its launch and is the fastest-selling PS4 title to ever exist. It does make sense, as the original Final Fantasy VII released back on the PS1 and changed what it meant to be a story game forever. That title defined what it meant to tell a deep and immersive story in video games. Looking back on it now, the game might not seem as impressive, but around the time of its release, the game shocked players down to its core for its blockbuster level cutscenes and a story so emotional, it continues to get mentioned over 23 years later. Amongst the new content in the remake are new boss fights. This guide will help players defeat the secret boss, Pride and Joy.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Secret bosses are fairly common in large RPGs. After the main storyline is completed, most games include a post-game with extra content for the player to enjoy. Secret bosses are typically the strongest, most difficult challenge in the game, testing the player’s skills to their limits. For example, in Kingdom Hearts 3, another title created by Square Enix, players can stumble across the Dark Inferno, a secret boss waiting at the Keyblade Graveyard. Before the DLC released, this was the most challenging boss in the game and took players several attempts to defeat. The Final Fantasy VII Remake does its own event by having its secret boss only available on the hardest difficulty in the game. Players can find the Pride and Joy Prototype in chapter 17 inside of the Shinra Combat Simulator. This is only available after completing all of the Corneo Colosseum challenges and all the previous Shinra Combat Simulator missions. Once again, this boss is only available on Hard difficulty. Speak with Chadley and he will guide the player to the mission. Pride and Joy are a part of the 14th challenge as the fifth and final round. Here’s how to defeat it.

Pride and Joy Secret Boss Fight in Final Fantasy VII Remake

For starters, come into this fight with Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith as party members. Aerith will function as the healer while Cloud and Tifa are responsible for DPS. Here’s a recommended loadout of what to bring during this fight. The player will need to defeat all of the other summon bosses, back to back, before reaching the final round with Pride and Joy. Fortunately, the final fight is the secret boss and it is the easiest out of all the other bosses before it in the tournament.

  • Cloud: Twin Stinger, Healing, Barrier, 2 HP UP, Time, Chain Bangle, Elemental with Ice, Revival, Steadfast Block, Headband
  • Aerith: Reinforced Staff, 2 Magic Up, 2 MP Up, Rune Armlet, Magnify-Healing, Revival, Circlet
  • Tifa: Sonic Strikers, Healing, MP Up, Time, Barrier, Cog bangle, Elemental with Ice, Time, Barrier.

The goal with this boss, as with many enemies in Final Fantasy VII Remake, is to build up the stagger meter. Use Tifa’s Focused Thrust and Starshower to start building up this meter. Triple Slash and Blade Burst are also ideal for building up stagger. Keep an eye on the parties’ health. If any characters HP goes below half, use Aerith to heal them. Go behind his legs and attack it to build a stagger. Try and avoid when Pride and Joy grabs a party member since, at the end of this move, it will slam the party member into the ground, instantly killing them. If a character is grabbed, aim for the hands to drop the character before it finishes them off.

The neat perk about this fight is the majority of Pride and Joy’s attacks are from a close range, making Aerith the most viable in this fight. Make sure to use Tifa and Cloud’s ATB attacks while playing as Aerith to get the most damage. Although, avoid the Beam Cannon move, as this is the only ranged attack this secret boss has. Use Revival Materia when needed if a party member falls in combat. Every character should have healing in their inventory. Keep attacking it until its HP reaches zero. After beating it, the player will be given the Gotterdammerung accessory. The Gotterdammerung is the best accessory in the game, as it grants the character with a full Limit Break at the start of every fight. It also fills up the Limit Gauge much faster. This item is great for any unfinished business for the rest of the game. The player will also receive the Ultimate Weapon trophy for defeating this boss.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake is one of the best games to release in 2020. The game faithfully recreates most of the iconic moments to occur in the original game. As the first part of the remake only covers up to the end of Midgar, more titles are planned to be released in the future, covering the remainder of the originals story. The remake also takes some creative liberty on how it plans to tell that story. Although, it is unknown currently what that will entail. The ending of the first part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake seems to be leading the story down a new path which has sparked some controversy surrounding the title. Will it continue to build on the foundation left behind in the first game? Or will the story go down a path the series has never seen before? Only time will tell and there will be plenty of time before players can see what happens next to Cloud and friends.
