Despite a recent delay, Square Enix has released a new trailer of the latest expansion for its massively popular Final Fantasy XIV, giving a better impression of what will be included in Endwalker when it launches next month. The game first launched in 2010 for PC, but following a very negative reaction, it was shut down in 2012. The game’s new form, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, released in 2013 on PC and PS3, and has since made its way to successive PlayStation consoles.

One platform that the game is not available on is Xbox. However, the developer has said that it has definite plans for bringing Final Fantasy XIV to Xbox consoles at some point, although there is still no specific timetable or release date. Square Enix is still negotiating with Microsoft and it says that discussions are positive, with an announcement hoped for some time in the near future.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

A launch trailer for Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker has been posted online by Square Enix, giving players a good look at the expansion ahead of its worldwide launch later this year. The footage highlights some of the new characters, setting, and story details included in the new expansion, and is one of the most detailed looks at Endwalker that fans have seen yet. However, the publisher has also revealed that the Final Fantasy XIV expansion has been delayed by two weeks. What has been described as the largest post-launch release for the long-running MMORPG will now release on December 7, with early access available from December 3.

The delay is largely due to producer and director Naoki Yoshida wanting to ensure the quality of the expansion before releasing it to the public. Yoshida personally apologized to fans during a livestream and took responsibility for the delay. The extra time will largely be spent on ensuring that the expansion is stable and free of major bugs. According to the producer, the extra time spent by the developer working on the story has left less time for quality assurance checks, which will now be carried out in the additional time afforded by the delay.

Although Square Enix has delayed the upcoming expansion, the release of a new trailer at least gives fans something to look forward to while they wait for Endwalker to release. And since there is a period of early access available for Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, fans will not have to wait that much longer before being able to try the expansion out for the first time.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is scheduled for release on December 7, 2021, for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
