Fans who love the graphics and lore of Final Fantasy XIV will have a new way to explore its dungeons with an upcoming photo mode being implemented in the newest patch. There are all sorts of players, ranging from those who focus on the story and those who are only focused on getting the best gear in the game.

As an MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV has a lot of content that can only be completed by teaming up with other players. The problem this may have is some players are simply not interested in exploration and focused on completing the level, while other players are the opposite and want to see it all. There can be frustration and conflict when a party member wants to just finish the boss while another party member wants to check out alternate paths and rooms.

To provide a new option for those who’d rather take their time sightseeing in dungeons, Square Enix announced that patch 5.4 on October 13 will come with the new Explorer Mode. The patch introduces many features, like new trials, challenges, and general updates, but one of the biggest things is the new option which allows players to explore dungeons without the concern of monsters or a party. This gives the player a chance to take screenshots with ease, and without being rushed by other party members that are tired of waiting. There is a list of details provided on the Final Fantasy XIV Twitter account to explain Explorer Mode in further detail. Firstly, a player can only use the mode on dungeons that they have already completed.

This will limit players who have not quite finished the game, but it makes sense to ensure players don’t use the explorer mode to understand the dungeon layout before completing it. Monsters and obstacles are removed from the dungeons, allowing the player to explore without the concern of any fighting or blockages. For the last feature, the player can utilize minions, mounts, and accessories, giving a lot of customization in the photos they take. Dungeons can be some of the most satisfying parts of Final Fantasy XIV, but roleplay and exploration are equally important for many players, meaning that Explorer Mode may not appeal to everyone, but it should be a great addition for those who enjoy it.

An Explorer Mode is a great feature to add for Final Fantasy XIV players to really get a look at the design of a world. Sometimes, the smaller details go unnoticed when the player is more concerned with completing the level or fighting a boss. It also gives something to do for players who might’ve completed the game, especially for those who are waiting for Final Fantasy XVI.
