PlayStation 4 gameplay footage from Cyberpunk 2077, the most anticipated release of the year, has surfaced online. As has become an even more common tradition ever since game consoles gained streaming functionality, the lucky few that benefit from leaked copies of a video game have decided to share the wealth and play through the opening bits with an audience. This inevitably happens with releases that have even the least plugged-in gamers ready to fork over cash on day one. With CD Projekt Red seeing its work getting translated into Netflix shows and attracting the attention of Bill S. Preston, Esq., Cyberpunk 2077 certainly falls into that mainstream category.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The leak of Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay was made all the easier by the peculiar circumstances of its release. The highly anticipated open-world RPG has been delayed countless times, and the final delay (fingers crossed) came after the game went gold. This means that discs were being printed of the game’s physical release, but they would sit in a warehouse for a while longer before heading out to stores. Some copies, however, seem to have exited their pre-launch slumber and magically found their way into some lucky players’ PS4 consoles.

For now, the footage from this outlaw stream of Cyberpunk 2077 is preserved on the web. The video has been posted and banned by several more run of the mill hosting services, and the mirror may disappear at any time. For now, players can take in the opening sections of CD Projekt Red’s latest adventure, much of which has been seen in promotional material as well. There is also some voiceover from the internet’s favorite leaker of the day in the footage. At at least one point, he states that he needs to “call his homeboys,” presumably to alert them to his online misdeeds.

As happens with any highly-anticipated video game hitting the wild, spoiler conscious players are advised to keep alert for potential experience ruining screenshots and factoids. Players have seen their gaming slightly upended by a poorly thought out boss fight thumbnail or a maliciously minded forum poster. Players may also see more footage leak out from later in the game, especially if this particular copy isn’t the last to make it into the public’s hands before the game officially goes on sale on December 10.

Logically, those who have waited years and years for the release of Cyberpunk 2077 will want to avoid this footage. They’ll only be watching things that they’ll be playing through in a few week’s time. However, the longer a wait like this ends up being, the more enticing footage like this can be. Of course, that unimpeded desire for footage also causes outlets and other users to try to post things as quickly as possible, making the risk of spoilers that much greater. Like most things in fandom, it’s a vicious cycle that’s hard to escape from.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on December 10, 2020, and it will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2021.
