The Flash movie casts Ron Livingston to replace Billy Crudup as Henry Allen. The DCEU’s first solo film centered on Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen is finally picking up traction after many years of delays. Miller first stepped into the role of the Flash for 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was followed by a more substantial part in Justice League the following year. It was believed he would then appear in his own movie, but The Flash has endured numerous director changes over the years, thus making it difficult to move forward.

Now, The Flash is set to begin with Andy Muschietti directing a script written by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey). Miller will once again play Barry for the film, which will adapt the famous comic storyline Flashpoint for the DCEU. Reportedly, The Flash will explore the DC multiverse and feature several heroes like Supergirl (Sasha Calle) and Batman (Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton). The movie is slated for release in November 2022 with filming expected to get underway soon.

It was recently revealed that Billy Crudup, who played Barry’s father in Justice League, had to depart The Flash due to scheduling conflicts with his Apple TV+ series The Morning Show. Now, nearly two weeks later, Variety reports Ron Livingston has taken over the part of Henry Allen. Livingston is best known for his roles in Office Space, The Conjuring, and A Million Little Things.

Additionally, a handful of other actors have been added to The Flash. Ian Loh will play a young Barry, while Rudy Mancuso and Derry Girls‘ Saoirse-Monica Jackson were cast in undisclosed roles. They’re all the latest to join a growing call sheet, which recently added Maribel Verdú as Barry’s mom Nora and officially brought back Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. With filming on The Flash gearing up, additional castings could be announced in the coming weeks. For the time being, though, the film has amassed a solid amount of performers to start out with.

Many fans were sad to lose Crudup as Henry, but Livingston already feels like a solid replacement. Barry’s relationship with his father got a bit of time in the spotlight during Zack Snyder’s Justice League, revealing Barry’s determination to exonerate an imprisoned Henry, who is currently serving time for the murder of Nora Allen. The addition of a young Barry all but confirms The Flash will delve into the character’s childhood, meaning there could even be some scenes where Henry is a free man. The Flashwill provide an opportunity to dive deeper into Barry’s family dynamic, and it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.
