Florence Pugh provides hilarious dialog dubbed over Yelena Belova’s Hawkeye introduction scene. The Avengers’ resident marksman headlines his own Disney+ show, set after the events of the Infinity Saga. While it primarily tackles Clint Barton’s new role as a mentor to Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), the death of Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) in Avengers: Endgame also factors into the narrative. Aside from quietly still grieving the death of his best friend, Clint also needs to deal with the arrival of Natasha Romanoff’s younger sister, Yelena, who is out to kill him.

Introduced in Cate Shortland’s Black Widow movie, Yelena is set to exact revenge on Clint for what happened to Nat, after she was made to believe that Hawkeye killed his fellow Avenger and friend. Black Widow‘s post-credits scene saw Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss) convincing Yelena that Hawkeye was solely to blame for Black Widow’s death on Vormir. It’s unclear how Fontaine is aware of this information, but her story was an oversimplification of what occurred on the alien planet between Clint and Nat. In any case, Yelena seems to be sold on the idea, leading to her appearance in Hawkeye episode 4, when she finally came face-to-face with Clint.

While Barton and Kate attempted to re-acquire the stolen Rolex from Avengers HQ from Maya Lopez’s (Alaqua Cox) apartment, Yelena ambushed their mission resulting in an intense fight between her and her sister’s old teammate in Hawkeye episode 4. Throughout the combat, Yelena didn’t utter any single line, only being unmasked towards the end of the tussle. Because of this, Pugh thought it would be great to give her character some dialog, complete with sound effects. Pugh also celebrated Yelena’s Hawkeye introduction on her own Instagram account, but later revealed that the social media site blocked her for apparently posting spoilers. The actress found the whole ordeal quite funny, since she was merely sharing her thoughts about her own appearance in the series. There hasn’t been any word as to whether Braff was also reprimanded by Instagram for posting this new clip. In any case, it’s clear that Pugh is thrilled to reprise her MCU role, this time on the small screen via Hawkeye. While some are disappointed that Yelena didn’t get any dialog in her first appearance, the new trailer for Hawkeye episode 5 confirms that the character is going to be more prominently featured from now on.

It’s difficult to predict how Hawkeye will end despite only having two outings left before it wraps up season 1. There are several ongoing plotlines that need to be addressed; such as Eleanor Bishop (Vera Farmiga) and Jack Duquesne’s (Tony Dalton) potential illegal dealings, Maya’s own quest for revenge, and the tease for Kingpin’s supposed arrival in the MCU. However, the show also needs to offer some sort of resolution in this one-sided conflict between Clint and Yelena, and perhaps Yelena will discover that the archer was not responsible for her sister’s death, after all.
