In its prime, Five Nights at Freddy’swas so popular it was almost impossible to avoid stumbling across it on the internet. After it released in 2014, content creators helped shoot the game into the mainstream and spawn a great following that’s still going strong to this day. However, these titles were created by an indie developer, which meant they lacked the polish of most AAA games on the market. Sony showed off Five Night’s At Freddy’s: Security Breach in its February 2021 State of Play showcase and it’s bizarre – in the best kind of way – to see this franchise looking as smooth as it does.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The original Five Nights at Freddy’s was a survival horror title in which players needed to last five nights as a security guard in a children’s pizzeria. Players use security cameras to observe each of the possessed animatronics and resist them accordingly while managing their remaining power. Each character has a different pattern, so players also need to micromanage who they’re paying attention to in order to survive. It’s a tense experience that is just as enjoyable to watch as it is to play. Since its reveal, it’s gotten popular enough that leaks have been claiming Freddy might even appear in Fortnite.

The series’ creator, Scott Cawthon, continued this formula for many of the game’s sequels, which featured varying environments and animatronics to shake up the gameplay. The visuals and overall quality of the games improved with each consecutive release, but they never quite hit the fidelity of most AAA titles. Many Five Nights at Freddy’s fans are still waiting for the movie adaptation of FNAF to finally release, but Security Breach is their best bet at seeing the series come to life with all the top-notch visuals one could dream of.

Why A AAA FNAF Game Is So Heart-Warming To See

Five Nights at Freddy’s ultimately was an indie game that was brought up by its explosive popularity on YouTube and Twitch. Many fans of the series were introduced to the games by watching their favorite content creators play through the series and witnessing their horrified reactions firsthand. But with Security Breach, players seem to actually have the ability to move around the pizzeria and avoid the animatronics in a similar fashion to Alien: Isolation, which means the game will have a more broad appeal. It’s similar to how the Xenoblade series went from being a tiny yet passionate community to a Nintendo franchise big enough for the studio to feature multiple Super Smash Bros. representatives.

The game was shown off earlier before Sony’s State of Play presentation, but this older trailer hardly showed off anything about how the game actually played. Since Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach will be taking advantage of the powerful hardware it’s running on, it’ll be interesting to see how long this title ends up being. Five Nights at Freddy’s games have historically stayed rather short, so maybe Security Breach will have a greater amount of content to offer its players than its prequels. Regardless of its length, it’s incredible to see Scott Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s go from a little indie title to a game big enough for Sony to show it off in its State of Play show.
