The latest boundary break video puts Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach under the spotlight and showcases some unused secret shortcuts among other pieces of cut content. This installment in the horror franchise is the first AAA title for the intellectual property, however the user score for FNAF: Security Breach is the lowest of any game in the series.

Video game boundaries often conceal a lot of used and unused elements the developers prefer to keep out of sight as their inclusion might disrupt a game’s intended experience. In most well constructed titles, many of these hidden aspects go largely undiscovered by most casual players. One group that goes against the norm is the speed running community, as these individuals try to use whatever means necessary to complete a certain title as quickly as possible. Most games require boundary breaking techniques to reach some of the absurdly fast records set for otherwise lengthy titles and FNAF: Security Breach speedrunners are no exception. Besides speedrunning, however, there is a lot of design information that can be gleaned from studying what exists beyond a game’s walls.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

YouTuber Shesez exemplifies this investigative approach with their Boundary Break series, and the latest installment focuses on FNAF: Security Breach. Some of the larger discoveries in this video were revealed after inputting a command to restore unused in-game geometry. These locations include a large backstage area, an open kitchen for the staff, and shortcut hallways from the character dressing rooms. Many other smaller design choices are also revealed throughout the video.

One of the biggest reveals in this installment of Boundary Break shows that the entirety of FNAF: Security Breach is technically all present at once. The game loads in quadrants, and going out of bounds showcases certain elements from other areas floating in a black void. By exploiting some of FNAF: Security Breach‘s glitches, this is how speedrunners are able to bypass so much of the game in a matter of minutes. Once a player drops into a new area, all they need to do is wait for it to load and then they can continue on, though it can be a bit more complicated than that.

Discovering what the developers wanted to leave unseen can often be more revealing than what players are meant to see. It gives fans further insight into the creative process and even shows how certain scenes or mechanics actually unfold. When it comes to Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, some of these hidden details can even inform certain elements of the story. There is a lot that can be learned by stepping outside the in-game box.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.
