EPIX has today officially announced that Godfather of Harlem season 3 will return to the network in 2022. The critically acclaimed drama from creators Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein stars Oscar-winning lead Forest Whitaker as the infamous 1960s gang leader, Bumpy Johnson. Following Johnson as he fights to rebuild the criminal empire left behind during an 11-year term in prison, the series captures a glimpse of 1960s Harlem amid the Civil Rights Movement and the clashing forces of the New York underbelly in a time of momentous change in American society.

Scheduled to begin production in New York this summer, Godfather of Harlem will return with a 10-episode third season in 2022. The announcement of a third season from EPIX follows a year in which Godfather of Harlem became EPIX’s best performing all-time series. With its season 2 finale breaking network single-day streaming records to become EPIX’s highest performing finale to date, fans have no doubt been awaiting the renewal of the lauded series.

The third season will cover Bumpy Johnson’s ongoing battle to take control of the Harlem underworld, taking on the encroaching forces of the Italian mob and Cuban Mafia in the attempt. Risking the lives of loved ones as ruthless crime bosses jockey for position in his territory, Bumpy will face more significant hardships in his endeavor to retake the empire he once ruled. If the last two seasons indicate the quality of the one to come, audiences will be in for a treat when Godfather of Harlem returns to EPIX.
