During The Game Awards 2021 ceremony, Iron Galaxy Studios and publisher Epic Games unveiled Rumbleverse, a battle royale brawler that looks like a cross-section between WWE and Fortnite. Founded in 2008, Iron Galaxy is best known for fighting titles such as Divekick and Killer Instinct. The Chicago-based outfit has also made a name for itself as a port studio, with Uncharted: The Legacy of ThievesCollection counting as its next major effort in this regard.

The Game Awards were packed with surprising reveals for many a gamer to enjoy. From Monolith’s Wonder Woman and the long-awaited Alan Wake II to the currently available Matrix Awakens demo and a joint The Ex panse project from the new Telltale Games and Life is Strange: True Colors developer Deck Nine, there seemed to be something shown for everyone. The awards aspect of the awards ceremony still left much to be desired, though, with viewers noting the show still has a long way to go if it wants to truly honor games and the people who make them.

Rumbleverse constituted but one of the myriad reveals at The Game Awards 2021. Fortnite creator Epic Games will publish the title developed by Iron Galaxy, which comes in the form of a battle royale experience with a twist. Instead of a third or first-person shooter, Rumbleverse’s battle royale brings 40 people together for a melee-centric brawler-royale, per Epic’s description. The game lacks a firm release date but enters Early Access on PC via the Epic Game Store, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms on February 8, 2022. Those interested in going hands-on ahead of launch can sign up for the Early Access phase through Rumbleverse’s official website. The sign-up process should prove simple enough, as it only asks for an email address and preferred platform.

Since the reveal trailer lacked gameplay footage, there’s currently no way of knowing how exactly Rumbleverse will work in practice. But Iron Galaxy’s pedigree in the fighting game genre suggests future players can at least expect to jump into a fun and engaging experience.

Epic Games is ending the year strong. Notably, the Rumbleverse announcement comes just days after the publisher unleashed Fortnite Chapter 3 across all platforms. Such an update for the ever-popular game packs in a brand-new island, additional characters such as Spider-Man, and gameplay mechanics like sliding and camp construction.

Rumbleverse enters Early Access for PC via the Epic Game Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on February 8, 2022.
