A new update for Fortnite: Save the World has come along and brought with it several new features, including the addition of wolves and dinosaurs. This is just one of the many updates provided for the massively popular Epic Games title, with a notable and recent example being the expanded Spider-Man content in Fortnite‘s Battle Royale mode.

While Fortnite is perhaps best known for its sprawling multiplayer matches hosted in the free-to-play Battle Royale mode, the game was initially imagined as a co-op base defense and survival game. This game mode, which has been subtitled Save the World, sees players teaming up with one another to defend a central area against zombie hordes. The game’s iconic construction feature was introduced through this mode, as it plays a vital role in keeping the mindless enemies at bay. Although Save the World isn’t free-to-play like its Battle Royale counterpart (although it is included as one of the many perks of the Fortnite Crew membership), it still receives attention from Epic via updates and content drops.

The most recent Save the World update has added several new tameable wildlife creatures. An update from Epic Games touches on how these new NPCs work, stating that they can become friendly allies upon receiving a gift of food. Several different animal types have been added, including wolves, boars, and raptors, and each of them has its own unique attack types and abilities. For instance, raptors can inflict Affliction, which causes enemies to take damage over time. Along with these animals comes the Brawl of the Wild questline, which will ultimately reward players with a new playable character.

This is certainly a beefy update to Fortnite: Save the World. While the Battle Royale corner of the game features several high-profile crossovers like the addition of Horizon Forbidden West‘s Aloy, there are still gamers who enjoy the more focused, single-player, and co-op gameplay on offer in Save the World. As such, these sorts of substantial content drops are sure to be well-received.

The introduction of these new mechanics and fun features shows that Epic still has an interest in keeping Save the World alive. Of course, it’s undeniable that the game’s Battle Royale mode is significantly more popular, so it’s unclear how long the developers will continue to support this more niche game mode. Whatever the future has in store for Fortnite: Save the World, though, many fans are sure to appreciate this new content.
