Fortnite has set a new record for the number of concurrent players participating in the recent Galactus event. The epic fight against the World Eater came as a conclusion to Season 4, although the surprise was slightly spoiled by a leaked Galactus skin a few days prior to the event.

A few days ahead of the Nexus War event’s epic conclusion, the Galactus skin reserved for the final battle leaked online, exposing the exact exterior of the arch-villain in Fortnite. The character received a fairly iconic menacing look, although Galactus did inherit some cartoonish proportions common for the Epic’s battle royale game. Before the event started, players expressed cautious hopes that Galactus’ leaked skin could be an obtainable one for later use, but that would’ve gone against the whole premise of Season 4.

The final battle against Galactus in Fortnite proved to be so popular that Epic Games announced a new record set by the game’s community. According to the developers’ tweet, it took 15.3 million concurrent players to defeat the World Eater. This is the highest online number in the entire game’s history to date, with another 3.4 million viewers joining the hype while watching the final event livestreamed on Twitch and YouTube. Fortnite’s Chapter 2 Season 4 concluded in an epic event featuring Galactus who was trying to attack and devour the Battle Island. Luckily, Iron Man was there with his latest invention to stop the arch-villain, as players received the ability to fly endless legions of modified Battle Buses right into the mouth of the gigantic cosmic being.

Season 4 in Fortnite was completely based on Marvel intellectual property with such heroes as Thor, Iron Man, and Wolverine arriving at the Battle Island to stop the invasion of Galactus. The arch-villain was on his way to destroy the game’s world, while in the meantime, players could earn various superhero skins and enticing cosmetics. During the last few months, the community witnessed the arrival of a number of additional characters including Daredevil, Ghost Rider, and Black Widow accompanied by themed tournaments.

It feels like the collaboration with Marvel drastically increased Fortnite’s popularity resulting in a new impressive record. For a three-year-old game in the highly saturated and competitive battle royale market, this is a mind-blowing achievement, which will be hard to surpass – if possible at all. There’re hardly any other fictional universes that are this influential, although Fortnite will likely take advantage of several modern pop-culture icons with Season 5.

Fortnite is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile devices.
