Free Guy: Where You’ve Seen The Cast Before

One of the most hotly-discussed topics amongst film fans on the internet is the idea of Hollywood finally making a great video game film. Though some such as Tomb Raider and Pokemon: Detective Pikachu have been seen as improvements on the likes of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and Super Mario Bros., many are still hoping for that truly “great” video game movie.

Even though it isn’t a specific adaptation of a video game, many believe that Free Guy could be film’s best representation of the video game medium. With the film’s talented and well-known cast, this is definitely a possibility, as they come equipped with experience in a number of highly praised projects.

7 Ryan Reynolds As Guy

As the “Guy” in the film’s title, Ryan Reynolds’ Guy lives inside a video game world as an NPC who works at a bank. When a new program is developed for the game Free City, Guy becomes aware that he is an expendable character in a video game. As Guy’s realization creates havoc in the game, the game’s publishers race to shut it down.

One of the most recognizable actors working in the industry today, Reynolds has endeared himself to audiences through roles in hit franchises like the Deadpool and The Hitman’s Bodyguard films. Reynolds has also shown his acting range in acclaimed indie films such as Buried and The Woman in Gold.

6 Jodie Comer As Millie/Molotov Girl

As of the programmers who created the code that allowed Guy to gain his awareness, Jodie Comer’s Millie finds herself being forced to deal with the ramifications of this. One of the ways that she does this is by creating an avatar in the game named “Molotov Girl,” who teams up with Guy.

Jodie Comer is most recognizable as the titular Eve in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s hit British spy series Killing Eve, having won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Comer has also been seen in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker and the BBC limited series Thirteen.

5 Lil Rel Howery As Buddy

Guy’s best friend in the film is Buddy, a security guard at the bank he works at. As Guy reacts to his realization of the world around him, Buddy disagrees with his assessments. Buddy’s oblivious attitude provides a funny counter-balance to the ridiculous things happening around him.

Buddy is played by Lil Rel Howery, who first gained mainstream attention as fan-favorite Rod in Jordan Peele’s Academy Award-winning horror film Get Out. Since then, Howery has had memorable roles in comedies such as Tag and Uncle Drew in addition to more dramatic performances in Bird Box and Judas And The Black Messiah.

4 Utkarsh Ambukdar As Mouser

Though not much is known about Utkarsh Ambukdar’s Mouser, he works at the same company as Millie and Keys, and he plays an integral part in helping them deal with Guy’s sudden realization.

An up-and-coming actor, Ambukdar has made a name for himself appearing in various skits from the popular YouTube channel College Humor. Since then, he has appeared in small roles in films such as Pitch Perfect and Mulan, though his role in the latter was cut by Disney. He also been seen on TV screens in shows such as The Muppets and The Mindy Project.

3 Joe Keery As Keys

As one of the programmers of the code that caused Guy to gain sentience, Keys also finds himself having to work with Millie in order to stop Guy from inadvertently destroying the game. With his own avatar in the game, Keys breaks off from Millie to stop Guy through his own means.

Joe Keery’s big break came when he was cast as Steve in Netflix’s hit sci-fi show Stranger Things. Due to his development over the course of three seasons, Keery’s Steve became a beloved character, and his performance has been praised since Stranger Things premiered. In addition to appearing in films like Molly’s Game, Keery is also a member of the rock band Post Animal.

2 Taika Waititi As Antoine

As the head of the video game company that publishes Free City, Antoine finds himself in a huge conundrum when Guy starts causing chaos in the game. The main antagonist of the film, Antoine will stop at nothing to get the game under control.

Antoine is played by Taika Waititi, an actor known as much for his talent behind the camera as his talent in front the camera. In addition to appearing in films such as The Suicide Squad and voicing fan-favorite MCU character Korg, he has also created the show Flight of the Conchords as well as written and directed the films Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok.

1 Camille Kostek As Bombshell

Another character about which not much is known, Bombshell is a plays a part in the game FreeCity. Though her motivations haven’t been revealed yet, she is an antagonist that Guy finds himself going up against.

While she hasn’t had many appearances onscreen, Kostek has made a name for herself in the modeling world. In addition to appearing on the front page of the 2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, she has modeled for L’Oreal and Victoria’s Secret.
