Janice. Janice Litman. The longtime on and off again girlfriend of Friends star Chandler Bing. Janice may be the most well known guest star ever to appear on the program, alongside Central Perk manager, Gunther. Janice appeared at least once in every single one of Friends’ ten seasons.

She is Chandler’s girlfriend before season one begins and Chandler spends a good portion of the first season trying to find ways to break up with Janice. She continues to appear alongside major moments in the series throughout, including when Rachel goes to the hospital to have her baby, Emma, in season eight. Here are ten of Janice’s best lines ever.

10 You Seek Me

“You seek me out!” Janice tells Chandler in the Valentine’s Day episode of season one. “Something deep in your soul calls out to me like a foghorn! Janice! Janice! You want me.

You need me. You can’t live without me. And you know it. You just don’t know you know it.” The complete quote is probably best remembered for the deep and very foghorn like repetition of Janice’s name. It certainly continued to set up Janice as a character, as well as highlight her trademark voice and laughter.

9 On the Phone

It was actress Maggie Wheeler’s exaggerated nasal voice that made Janice particularly memorable among the show’s many guest stars and love interests. The show played upon this once again in the Valentine’s Day episode of season one, The One with the Candy Hearts.

Monica gets Ross on the phone, knowing it will bother Chandler, and hands the phone over to Janice to say hello. “Hi, Ross. That’s right, it’s me! How did you know?” It would be hard not to recognize the character from her sound alone.

8 Nasal

The joke about Janice’s voice comes back around in season seven in the episode The One with Ross’s Library Book. This is the episode where Janice learns Monica and Chandler are engaged and not only invites herself to the wedding, but invites herself over to their apartment as well.

While there she insists, if she is going to stay that, “Okay, I’m gonna need a comforter. But do you have a hypoallergenic one? Because otherwise, I get very nasal. Do you have a cat? Ah. Because it’s already happening. Ah. Do you hear that? Ah. Ah. Ah.” It was never about having a cat.

7 Rocky and Bullwinkle

In the fifth episode of season one Chandler tries, not for the last time, to break up with Janice. When she meets him at Central Perk she is not only completely unsuspecting, but she’s also brought gifts.

She has brought Chandler a pair of Bullwinkle socks because she knows him. “Well, I knew you had Rockys. So I figured you can wear Bullwinkle and Bullwinkle, or you could wear Rocky and Rocky, or you can mix and match. Moose and squirrel. Whatever you want.” It’s an adorable gesture.

6 Movie Date

In season three, The One with the Metaphorical Tunnel, Chandler tries to decide how to move forward with Janice while still being indecisive and very much Chandler.

When they consider going to a movie Chandler complains that there are no good movies out for them to see. Janice does not see any problem at all. “So let’s go to a bad one, and make out,” she declares. She seems to have the right idea, but Chandler, as usual, gets in his own way.

5 Joey

In season three the episode, The One with the Princess Leia Fantasy, Joey is struggling to understand why Chandler and Janice are together. Joey is Chandler’s best friend, so it’s important that he get along with Chandler’s girlfriend.

In an attempt to hurry this process along with Janice plans, “Joey and Janice’s Day of Fun!” The sing-song style of this pronouncement, that continues throughout the episode, is classic Janice, no questions asked.

4 Photo Evidence

The One with the Candy Hearts in season one is perhaps the best Janice episode of all time, because another one of her very best quotes is, again, from that episode. Having, for once, actually sent Janice away, the woman returns with a great zinger for her indecisive ex.

“By the way, Chandler, I cut you out of all of my pictures. So if you want, I have a bag with just your heads.” Chandler tells Janice that it’s okay, but Janice isn’t done. “Are you sure, really? Because, you know, you could make little puppets out of them and you could use them in your Theater of Cruelty!”

3 Nicknames

Chandler may be best known as Janice’s “little bingaling” but it was not the only nickname she gave her former boyfriend over ten seasons.

In the final season of Friends Monica and Chandler run into Janice and her new husband as both couples are looking for houses outside the city. Janice, very kindly, lets the realtor know that, “Oh, we go way back. Before Monica made an honest man out of him, Chandler used to be my little love muffin.”

2 Babies

In the season finale of season eight, The One Where Rachel Has the Baby Part 2, Janice is, of course, a roommate to Rachel for a little while.

Even though both she and Chandler are married by then, she can’t help but bring attention to their past relationship, even in the maternity ward. “Oh, this should be easy,” she announces. “I have a very wide pelvis. You remember, Chandler.”

1 Oh My

Janice is best remembered for her catchphrase, “Oh my God.” This line traces its history all the way back to the pilot episode of Friends. Janice and Chandler have yet to break up, even though Chandler is already trying desperately to do so.

The first time Janice uses her catchphrase it’s in a longer line, before it gets cut down to just the three word greeting of surprise. “Well I gotta buy a vowel,” Janice tells Chandler, “Because O my God”.
