The Fruits Basket season three trailer teases Tohru desperately trying to save Kyo. Fruits Basket tells the story of the cursed Sohma family, who each turn into a Zodiac animal when hugged by the opposite gender. When Tohru Honda, an orphan girl with a kind heart, meets the Sohma family, their lives change forever. Fruits Basket is the second anime adaptation based on the award-winning manga of the same name by Natsuki Takaya.

The season three trailer teases a tearjerker of a final season. Akito, the mysterious head of the Sohma family appears to be unraveling as the curse weakens, thanks in part to Tohru’s determination and love. Yuki Sohma appears as well, wanting to tell Machi the truth. Check out the full trailer from Funimation below.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Fruits Basket has been an immensely popular Shoujo manga/anime series for years, due majorly in part to Tohru’s character growth throughout the series. One major part of Tohru’s character arc is her finally being able to accept that it’s okay to be selfish, especially when it comes to acknowledging that she’s fallen in love with Kyo Sohma. In the trailer, she acknowledges that the major reason she wants to break the Sohma/Zodiac curse is so she doesn’t lose Kyo (who also loves her.) Kyo was born as the unlucky 13th member of the Zodiac, inheriting the spirit of the cat who originally defied the god of the Zodiac.

If Tohru is unable to break the curse by the following spring in the show’s timeline, then Kyo will be forced into lifelong confinement in the Cat’s room, essentially a jail cell where he can’t live the rest of his life freely as punishment for the original cat’s sin. Will Tohru be able to break the curse in time and have a happily ever after with Kyo in Fruits Basket’s final season? Fans will have to wait and see when season three premieres this April, only on Funimation.
