DJ is one of the most famous Full House characters, partly because of her catchy name, and partly because she is the clear center of the reboot. Now that Fuller House has released its final installment of episodes, fans might want to revisit the old DJ that they know and love.

Spoiler alert: she isn’t perfect. DJ is like other teenagers–she learns lessons and makes mistakes. No one expects her to be the golden child all the time. With that said, here are ten things about DJ’s Full House journey that wouldn’t work in this day and age.

10 Dating Days

DJ’s dating life before Steve Hale (but including Steve Peters) is not awesome. Her middle school boyfriend, Kevin, breaks her heart and drinks beer at the school dance. Her big high school date is so wild that Danny, Jesse, and Joey come along to spy on her. Then there are a few sub-par crushes along the way. Despite her flaws, DJ deserves better, so these dud dates might not pass nowadays.

9 Steve

Steve and DJ are far from the perfect couple. Even though they get many more chances at love on Fuller House, the couple’s 90s romance would raise some flags today. DJ and Steve’s age difference is not a terrible thing, but it puts them in different stages of life once Steve gets more involved with college and DJ is in high school. They make the best decision for them by breaking up at the time, and fans will just have to go to Netflix to see how their story ends.

8 Fashion

It can be fun to watch DJ’s style evolve from the 80s to the 90s. The change is not immediate, but it is clear. Middle school DJ looks more like a mini Aunt Becky with her pantsuits and shoulder pads. Teenage DJ follows the trends of the greatest decade, the 90s, by leaning into the high-waisted jeans, cute mini-skirts, and comfy vests or overalls. Some of the looks from the latter days are back, but not so with those of the 80s.

7 Hair

DJ’s hair has as many phases as everyone else’s on this show. She keeps it pretty simple for her kid look in the first season, then totally crimped for season two. Seasons three and four settle into a straight hair, poofy bangs look. Seasons five and six give her a slightly darker color and ditch the bangs.

The first hair cut, about shoulder length, comes in season seven. Finally, the bob arrives in the eighth season. This is a lot to keep up with, so who is to say that a hairstylist would be game for all that on a show today?

6 Disrespectful

DJ is not as perfect as your memory (or as today’s Fuller House) would make it seem. She talks back, antagonizes Stephanie, and disobeys authority. She knows every trick in the book, and it starts young. When she is specifically told that she cannot go get Stacey Q’s autograph, DJ fakes being sick and sneaks out with Kimmy. The bad news is, Joey thinks she’s being such a great kid that he goes to get the autograph for her. Guess DJ didn’t think that scenario through too well.

5 Devious

Aside from her disrespect for authority, DJ has even more of a devious side. Sometimes, she wants to do the right thing. She still messes up, though. Take that time when she gets her first real job and slacks on her schoolwork: she grabs a red pen and turns that F grade into an A (but eventually confesses).

Or that time in the fifth season when Steve Peters has the hots for DJ, but she’s supposed to babysit Stephanie and Michelle. She sneaks off with her date and her sisters to the movies.

4 Temperamental

DJ can be touchy and temperamental. This is normal, but it happens more than you might notice at first. She snaps at her father figures, her sisters, friends at school, and even her best friend, Kimmy Gibbler. It can be excused here and there, but it is more popular and right to be kind and show respect whenever possible.

3 Spoiled

DJ does have to share a room with Stephanie for a long time, but it’s not that hard for her to convince Danny to give her a room of her own again. Danny is sometimes resistant to DJ’s mature relationship with Steve, but she continues to date him, anyway. Stephanie looks up to her big sister, but DJ still makes the wrong decision sometimes just because she knows she can. DJ is pretty spoiled at the Tanner place, and this is not the most redeeming quality these days.

2 Dating Again

We know that DJ’s dating life post-Steve doesn’t age well because history repeats itself on Fuller House, sort of. The theme in both series is that DJ has her pick of the lot. On Full House, both Viper and Nelson vie for her attention. In the reboot, it’s Steve and DJ’s coworker, Matt. DJ already thinks she’s a pretty cool chick, so it’s hard to watch all these men throw themselves at her.

1 Bossy

DJ is a great sister at the end of the day and is a valuable member of the family. She can be rather bossy, though, even when trying to do the right thing. She demands that her family act a certain way when friends come over, she yells at Stephanie more often than necessary, and she carries a hint of her dad’s organizational neuroses which only grows in her adult life on the reboot. Telling people what to do isn’t favorable, but fans still love DJ Tanner.
