As D.J. Tanner’s best friend and confidante, Kimmy Gibbler, played by Andrea Taylor, is one of the most controversial characters on the Full House set. She is down-to-earth, eccentric and a good friend, and constantly amazes audiences with her balance between comedy antics and sincere loyalty and attentiveness.

Fans of the show might wonder about how Kimmy fits into the bigger scheme of things, since she seems to turn up on set at the click of fingers, and amuses audiences with her offbeat musings. Here are 10 lesser-known things about Full House’s Kimmy Gibbler:

10 She Is The Tanner’s Neighbor

Kimmy often turns up unexpectedly and uninvited in the Tanner’s household. This is because she lives next door to the family in their San Francisco home.

She often appears unannounced in their home and adds a comedic twist to their everyday lives. However obnoxious she can be, she would definitely be missed by the Tanners if she was not there.

9 She Battles To Keep Jobs

Kimmy has a naturally rebellious nature and is constantly shown as rebelling against authority. This hasn’t always been in her favor. One of her longest-standing jobs was one she held down for a few hours at a movie theater, where she worked alongside D.J.

Something else which isn’t in Kimmy’s favor when trying to hold down jobs is her seemingly natural tendency towards obnoxious outbursts. Audiences will know she has a good heart, however, this innate sincere nature of her’s, is often eclipsed by her rude, obnoxious sentiments.

8 D.J. Keeps Her On The Straight & Narrow (Almost)

It is friend D.J. Tanner who helps to reign in Kimmy’s exuberance and rebellious nature. On more than one occasion, D.J. curtails Kimmy’s wild antics.

For example, in one episode she got really drunk at a party and D.J. helped to bring her home.

7 She Is Not Loved By Everyone

D.J. Tanner is not necessarily loved by everyone in the Tanner household. Stephanie Tanner, especially, can’t stand her.

Also, Uncle Jesse is not ashamed to vocally express his dislike of her. Many of the characters find her obnoxious and a little over-the-top.

6 She Comes Up With Inventive Nicknames

Probably one of the reasons Kimmy is disliked by certain members of the Tanner household is because she is so casual with them, and this could possibly be perceived as rude. She can be downright stubborn and confrontational, saying things just as she perceives them. This includes her tendency to call people by nicknames which they aren’t always pleased about.

She calls Jesse ‘Hairboy’ because of the frequency with which he changes hairstyles and his obsession with his hair. She also calls Mr Tanner, ‘Mr T’.

5 She Has Known The Tanners For A Long Time

As the story goes, Kimmy first met D.J. Tanner in nursery school. However, they only started being best friends at around nine years of age. It is unclear whether this was when she and her family first moved next door to the Tanner family. Having known the Tanners for a long time, Kimmy fits into the Tanner household like a piece of furniture. She is an unmistakable part of their lives.

4 She Moves A Lot

According to Kimmy’s own admission, she and her family move quite a lot. By her own confession, this happens every five years or so. Perhaps this is the reason behind her rebellious attitude. This frequent moving of her family from neighborhood to neighborhood might also be the reason Kimmy often appears adrift and free from any ties which might hinder her uniqueness and personal autonomy.

3 She Is Steeped In Controversy

Kimmy likes to be controversial. Or perhaps it could be better said that she is controversial. It is just in her nature to be so and she seems to enjoy and thrive on being this way.

In one episode she seeks to marry her boyfriend Duane. Despite being far too young to consider such a step, Kimmy seems ready to take the plunge and isn’t concerned about everyone’s surprised expressions.

2 The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree

It would seem Kimmy comes from a lineage of strangeness. In one episode, when D.J. asks what Kimmy is doing for the weekend, Kimmy tells her that she is going with her ‘pop’ to shoot rats. Not the conventional thing for a teen to do over the weekend – but then Kimmy is anything but conventional.

1 She Comes From A Large Family

Even though Kimmy seems adrift in the world and lacking in loyalty to any group of people, even a family – she in fact has quite a large family. The show’s narrative reveals she has three sisters, as well as an older brother. Her parents and family remain somewhat of a mystery and her home life, a backstage narrative, however, viewers accept her as she is, as an extension of the Tanner clan.
