Universal and Blumhouse’s The Invisible Man trailer reveals more of the movie’s story. Originally, The Invisible Man reboot started off as part of Universal’s Dark Universe – a shared film universe featuring classic movie monsters like Dracula, the Mummy and the Invisible Man. However, when Tom Cruise’s The Mummy flopped with critics and wasn’t a major hit at the box office, Universal scrapped the Dark Universe. That meant the planned Invisible Man movie starring Johnny Depp was reworked, and Depp left the project. Universal brought in producer Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions to help retool The Invisible Man.

With filmmaker Leigh Whannell (Insidious: Chapter 3, Upgrade) set to write and direct, a new take on The Invisible Man moved forward with Elisabeth Moss starring as Cecilia Kass, a woman terrorized by her abusive ex-boyfriend who’d faked his own death and discovered how to become invisible. The Invisible Man movie trailer released in November, giving horror fans their first look at the upcoming monster reboot, one that’s incredibly grounded in the real world. Now, a new trailer dives deeper into the story of The Invisible Man.

Universal unveiled a new official Invisible Man movie trailer, showcasing the tense sequence in which Cecilia escapes from the home of her abusive boyfriend, Adrian Griffin (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). Things go wrong when she attempts to free his dog Zeus and sets off a car alarm in the process. Then, the trailer reveals more from what appears to be a sequence later on in the film when Cecilia discovers Adrian has been hiding in her house and she must fight off the invisible man. Watch the new Invisible Man trailer below.

This latest Invisible Man trailer seems to reveal a lot from the upcoming horror movie, highlighting almost full sequences from the final film. While that helps to establish that suspense and terror inherent in these scenes, giving viewers an idea of what to expect from Whannell’s movie, some may argue this Invisible Man trailer reveals too much from the movie. Trailers are meant to sell prospective audiences on a movie without letting them feel like they’ve already seen most of the film itself and this Invisible Man teaser arguably leans more toward the latter by showcasing a number of tense moments in which Adrian Griffin uses his invisibility to terrorize Cecilia.

Still, it’s an effective teaser in that it ramps up the horror of Invisible Man and previews exactly what kind of movie this will be. Plus, there’s sure to be plenty more in the movie that’s not included in this trailer. Considering The Invisible Man received an R rating, there’s bound to be aspects of the movie left out of this trailer because they were too R-rated for general audiences. So while the new Invisible Man trailer reveals quite a bit of the film’s story, it may not have revealed too much. Fans will get to see for themselves when The Invisible Man hits theaters later this month.
